Rostros del arte griego, un ideal de belleza / Faces of Greek art, an ideal of beauty

¡Saludos! Espero estén todos muy bien. Estas dos últimas semanas he estado publicando fotos y reseñas de mi visita al Museo Arqueológico Nacional de Atenas en Grecia así que para hoy traigo unas fotos enfocadas en los rostros de algunas de las esculturas y relieves que alberga esta inmensa colección de piezas de arte de la antigua Grecia.

Greetings! I hope everyone is very well. These last two weeks I have been posting photos and reviews of my visit to the National Archaeological Museum of Athens in Greece, so for today I bring some photos focused on the faces of some of the sculptures and reliefs that are in this immense collection of art pieces from ancient Greece.

Los antiguos griegos le daban una gran importancia a la belleza y la misma estaba asociada a la simetría del rostro y del cuerpo. Un rostro bello estaba compuesto por ojos grandes, una nariz recta, labios gruesos y redondeados, mandíbula fuerte y cabello abundante en preferencia rizado. Si bien la belleza es algo subjetivo y está en los ojos de quien la mira, esta pequeña colección de clásicos rostros helénicos que les traigo hoy es una muestra de los cánones de belleza que regían a la sociedad de la antigua Grecia y que han quedado para la posteridad. Bueno, mejor dejemos que las palabras callen y que estos rostros hablen. Disfruten.

The ancient Greeks gave great importance to beauty and it was associated with the symmetry of the face and body. A beautiful face was composed of large eyes, a straight nose, thick rounded lips, a strong jaw, and abundant hair that was preferably curly. Although beauty is something subjective and is in the eyes of whoever looks at it, this small collection of classic Hellenic faces that I bring you today is a sample of the canons of beauty that governed the society of ancient Greece and that have remained for posterity. Well, we better let the words be silent and let these faces speak. Enjoy.

El famoso "perfil griego" / The famous "Greek profile"

Aunque no es un rostro humano, en esta representación del minotauro se pueden apreciar la armonía y belleza de las formas / Although it isn´t a human face, in this representation of the minotaur you can appreciate the harmony and beauty of the forms

Sin duda alguna, los dioses del Olimpo eran la imagen perfecta de la belleza y la perfección y las innumerables esculturas dedicadas a ellos son una muestra de eso, de hecho, algunos de los rostros que hoy les traigo les pertenecen. Seguramente habrán escuchado la expresión: "hermoso como un dios griego" para referirse a un hombre o a una mujer atractivos. Dejé estos rostros sin identificar a propósito porque en la antigua Grecia la belleza era tan bien apreciada y valorada que se había convertido no solo en una virtud de los dioses sino que también era común entre los mortales así que quise mostrarlos como iguales.

There is no doubt that the gods of Olympus were the perfect image of beauty and perfection and the innumerable sculptures dedicated to them are a sample of that, in fact, some of the faces that I bring you today belong to them. Surely you have heard the expression: "beautiful as a Greek god" to refer to an attractive man or woman. I left these faces unidentified on purpose because in ancient Greece beauty was so highly appreciated and valued that it had become not only a virtue of the gods but was also common among mortals so I wanted to show them as equal.
