Visit to San Pedro Sula, Honduras

avatar

I went for four days to San Pedro Sula, which is the second largest city in the country with about 800,000 inhabitants even though the surrounding areas make it more like one and a half million. It is the industrial heart of Honduras most manufacturing is done here, it is also the heart of a very large agricultural and cattle area, it is in fact a booming town. But you can see the difference, there is an area that is quite modern with malls, restaurants, museums, tall buildings up to 30 stories (in fact I believe the tallest building in Central America is here - barring Panama of course)and other ammenities, while the rest of the place is for lower middle class people and outright very poor people who come looking for work.

It is also supposed to be extremely dangerous, but I can't vouch for this, I walked all over the place making my ten thousand steps and saw nothing remotely dangerous, I imagine there are pickpockets but I just walked around with little cash so I was not a good victim. But in the old center it is just full of people selling everything on the sidewalks, I am still wondering if an Omega watch they offered me for 500 Lempiras was an original.
