BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! - Fog of War Ruleset

Hi Guys! In this post we are exploring on another Splinterlands ruleset. The ruleset we are focusing on is Fog of War.

In a Fog of War ruleset, all units lose the Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity abilities.

Do not position melee units with Sneak, Snipe or Opportunity at the back of your lineup when you come across Fog of War as this ruleset effectively will render these melee units unable to attack from the back.

Lets take a look at a Wild Silver ranked match with Fog of War as one of the ruleset. The battle restrictions are:
Fog of War and Broken Arrows with a max mana of 52. Only Fire, Water, Earth and Dragon splinters are allowed in this battle. The Video for the Full Battle can be seen here:

Splinter	Mana Cost	Position	Reason
Possibilus the Wise	6	Summoner	I went for Possibilus as the summoner because it gave Reach to all units and thus I can put a big hitting melee units at the second position to give myself more offensive power in my lineup. Having some melee units in my lineup would gave me enough damage even if my opponent went with a Void unit in the first position.
Legionnaire Alvar	9	1st	I had Alvar in the tanking position because it had Void armor and a high armor. This means it can defend against both magic and melee attack. I needed my tank to survive as long as possible to give time for my backline to destroy the enemy lineup.
Coastal Sentry	10	2nd	Coastal Sentry was my main offensive unit as it has 4 melee attack with Double Strike ability. This offensive power was way more than any magic attacking units I had in my lineup. But I needed it to stay alive long enough to inflict its damage so it had to hide in the second position.
Djinn Oshannus	8	3rd	Djinn Oshannus was my third unit. It is a magic attacking unit with Void and a good health. It would be my tank if my front 2 melee units fall.
Venari Wavesmith	5	4th	Wavesmith was my next unit and it was important as well because it has Protect ability. With Protect, all my units gained 2 more armor. This was especially useful to my Legionnaire Alvar as the 2 armor can be used to defend against magic attack too.
River Hellondale	7	5th	River Hellondale was my next unit and it had a very important role. Its main role was to resurrect my Legionnaire Alvar if Alvar is killed. Hellondale's Resurrect ability will ensure a revived Alvar with a full armor that can defend against both melee and magic attack again.
Riverboat Captain	6	6th	Riverboat Captain has Blast ability that will cause magic damage to the opponent unit in the second position as well.

Opponent Lineup:

My opponent went with a Dragon + Water splinter lineup with Helios Matriarch as the summoner. It was primarily a magic attack lineup which wasn't surprising as Broken Arrows ruleset basically meant Ranged units were not advisable in this match and that leave magic attack as the only option to use for attack from the back since Fog of War disabled Snipe, Sneak and Opportunity melee units.

End of Round 1:

The opponent Djinn Chwala was an expected tank for me and it gave me some problems in the first round with its Thorn ability. But eventually my team still managed to kill it at the end of the round while my own tank, Alvar, barely survived.

End of Round 2:

My Legionnaire Alvar was immediately killed at the start of round 2 but was instantly revived by my River Hellondale with 10 armors and 1 health. With Void Armor, my opponent needed to destroy my revived Alvar's armor first before being able to kill it.

My opponent not only couldn't my Alvar again this round but also ended up losing Djinn Oshannus to my crazy Coastal Sentry massive double hit.

End of Round 3:

I lost my Legionnarie Alvar and Coastal Sentry in this round but before my Coastal Sentry died, it destroyed off my opponent's 2 magic units via its massive double attack and Trample ability from Possibilus. I followed that up by taking out the opponent Riverboat Captain with my remaining magic attacks and the round ended with my opponent having just 1 unit left.

End of Round 4:

My opponent had no chance with 1 unit left and lost the match in round 4.

KEY STRATEGY
My strategy was to make use of Void Armor and Resurrect to hold the front while my back units can bombard the enemy front lines as quickly as possible. It worked very well in the match.

THINGS TO REMEMBER
There are a few things to avoid doing in Fog of War ruleset:

1. Avoid using melee units with Sneak, Snipe or Opportunity abilities as they wouldn't be able to use them in Fog of War ruleset. Units with Ranged or Magic attack are still ok since they can still hit the front but not melee units.
2. If possible, put the most offensive units at the back. This is because it can't be hit by Sneak.
3. Scattershot will bypass Fog of War. This means unit with Scattershot can still randomly hit opposing units at the back.
