Hello everyone, welcome to another episode of Hive Learner's Creative Sunday Initiative with George Dee. Every Sunday, the Hive learner's community allows members to share their creative side and to participate, you have to be a member.

Hive Learner's Creative Sunday Guidelines.

As usual, I will show you some magic that happened in my kitchen and you will definitely love it. Today, I prepared one of my favourite foods and aside from enjoying this food, I don't get tired of preparing it.

My love for porridge started as a kid. Back then, I really did not love yam. I ate it but just a few bites and that was all but because I was a palm oil drinker and since my mom poured lots of it in porridge, I ate it very well. I don't know why I was like that but eating porridge eventually made me love yam and it's one of my favorites as long as it's prepared with palm oil.

Porridge is a very delicious and nutritious meal if prepared properly, the process you are about to learn from me is one of the best ways to prepare your porridge. Everyone knows yam is a carbohydrate but with some recipes, we can change the fate of the yam and spice it up with numerous vitamins.

What are the recipes needed?

  1. Yam
  2. Pepper
  3. Palm oil
  4. Crayfish
  5. Dried Fish
  6. Boiled Fish
  7. Cowskin
  8. Basil leaf
  9. Onions
  10. Seasoning cubes and salt.

Aside from all these mentioned, there are a few other things you can add. Pumpkin, Sausage, beef, chicken and a few other things can take your porridge to a whole new level.

Procedure

I know of two ways to prepare yam porridge but for this Creative Sunday Initiative, I used the most sophisticated one and yet, it is simple and doesn't take much of your time.

Before I started anything;

  • I peeled the yam, cut it into smaller pieces and washed the pieces thoroughly in clean water. I poured everything into a clean pot with a good quantity of water, added a small salt and then put it on fire.

  • While the yam was cooking, I washed all the recipes properly and processed them afterwards.

  • I blended the pepper.

  • Cut the fish and cowskin into smaller pieces

  • I sliced the onions and Basil leaves too.
By the time I finished, the yams had properly cooked so I turned everything into a basket to drain the water and put it aside.

  • I poured palm oil into the same pot I used to boil the yam after cleaning and heating it. I allowed the palm oil to get hot before turning the shredded fish and cowskin into it.

  • I allowed them to fry under low heat before adding onions and the blended pepper about three minutes later.

  • I added seasoning cubes and just a small quantity of salt since I already boiled the yam with salt. I allowed everything to fry for about seven minutes under low because I needed the fried taste to make the porridge taste great. I also added the crayfish so that it would play its part in influencing the porridge taste.

  • I went on to put the yam and some chopped green pepper into the pot, I stirred everything with a turning stick, added a small quantity of water and allowed it to cook for another five minutes.

  • After five minutes of cooking, I mashed the yam with the turning stick. Some people love to have their yam remain solid but that's not me, I love it mashed. After mashing, I added the Basil leaves and allowed it to cook again for a few minutes.

  • I wasn't satisfied with the mashing so I did it again and the outcome was awesome. While stirring it for the last time, I was already salivating because in my head, I can imagine what the taste would be with the recipes.

The porridge tastes great and it's nutritious as well. It is quite economical except you choose to use really expensive recipes and it would interest you to know that I spent less than $3 for this sumptuous meal.

Thanks for the doot sir 🤣, yam and palm oil is even rich man food. You haven't added palm oil to Garri and sprinkle small salt+ chilli pepper if you have any?

I am glad you love and thank for the support as usual, God bless you abundantly.

Cheers to a beautiful week bro.

Seven live? I don't think so, you need beef, snail, chicken and probably prawn to make it seven.

I am glad you love it, cheers to a beautiful week 💕.

Aww. Why won't George have a chubby cheek and fresh skin? This is interesting. I love palm oil too because of its benefit than groundnut oil. I love yam porridge too but do not cook as usual unless I am in the mood for it. This is looking sumptuous and I feel like taking a bite of it.

This is my best way of eating yam porridge. This method is sweeter. For those who do not like yam porridge, you can't say that again if you taste this method @george-dee just taught. Try it out . Well done, Bro. Your images are always a killer. Your camera and plating adds glamour to the food always. Kudos

I congratulate you for your explanation of how to make the dish, and your presentation in photos is impeccable. Very easy to make as far as I can see, here in Venezuela due to the effects of inflation in the products that dish would cost me around 13$, but I think we would eat 3 or 4 people, and it is still economical. I will try to cook it.
