Job Hunt Experiences.

Whenever I tell people what I have been through in life, they find it hard to believe it just because I don't look like what I have been through. If many of us look exactly like what we have been through in life, a lot of people won't choose to associate themselves with us.

About six years ago, job hunting became the only thing I knew how to do. I can tell you the name of companies you will find in some areas of my city, I was so familiar with their names because I go about knocking on the companies' gates asking if there was an opening at their place.

I was returning from my hunt one evening when one of my shoe sole fell off, it was quite embarrassing and understanding as well. The shoe has served me and if it gets a chance to live again, it won't choose me as the owner.

The thing was that I usually trek every day for the job hunt and the shoe was tired of my situation. I paused to look around to see if no one was looking at me as I thought about the next thing to do. My home was about a 35-minute trek from where the evil strucked and to make things worse, I didn't have a dime on me.

People were around but no one paid attention to me and as I bend down to pick the sole, a cobbler who was watching me from a distance shouted, "Oga shey make I come?" meaning "Boss, should I come?".

A few people turned to see who he was talking to and I felt terrible. I put up a false smile and waved to him signifying no but this guy wouldn't take a no for an answer. He continued screaming just for me to patronise him and I had to put the shame aside, pick up the sole, remove the remaining part of the shoe and continue the trip with my bare foot.

I haven't trekked for another five minutes when I came across another cobbler, he was walking behind me and hitting his box just to make me know he was behind me. It was really annoying but there was nothing I could do.

I increased my steps speed and he did the same. He finally caught up with me and ask if I wasn't going to mend my shoe. I felt like punching his face because I was just too frustrated and didn't reply him. The people there were looking at me but I should have just fixed the shoe instead of walking barefooted in the hot sun.

On my arrival at the house, I met my neighbour outside and they were wondering why I was walking barefooted. They asked why and guess what I said.

"I told them that I didn't see a cobbler to mend it".

I finally got an interview and was just too excited about everything, who wouldn't be?

I got there on that day even before the securities arrived and waited patiently for them. The company staff arrived and the HR was impressed to see me at the premises even before resumption.

The interview started and after some time, I was asked, "where do you see yourself in the five years time".

I readjusted on the seat, smiled and said nothing but the truth. I poured out my mind and the company wasn't in the picture of everything I said. Everything was about saving up to start a small scale business and make it a reputable brand.

The interviewer kept smiling and I thought being honest would do the magic, she pretended to appreciate my honesty and I felt cool. After the interview, they promised to call me for resumption and I am still expecting their call till today. The job position was still available weeks after because the advert placement wasn't removed so I told a fellow hunter and told her the things they asked me during the interview.

She lied about her next five years and got the job. I learned my lesson, honestly won't take you anywhere in life.

Or do you think it will, feel free to share your sentiment about my lesson? Thanks for taking the time to read, happy new month.

I would have fought him badly, a frustrated man doesn't have joy. It is not by force to sew my shoe 😁

You are right, companies always want everything to be about themselves and until I realised that, I didn't secure a job.

I sew it when I had money and still used it for a while before it condemned completely.

You should have told them that you would make their company great. You are the architect of your downfall

I misunderstood what honesty meant and I am glad I learned my lesson.
