Lost Memories Of The Lighthouse Keeper.

Upon getting the job at the lighthouse, George was the happiest man in the world. He set out on the resumption date to meet with Mr Almond, the man who contracted him as a lighthouse Keeper.

" Hello, Mr Almond" George greeted immediately after he sighted him.

They chatted for some minutes and eventually went on a boat to the small island. George was shown around the lighthouse immediately after they arrived there.

"You should rest today, I will resume here tomorrow so we can work together for a few days before I leave you to handle things all by yourself," Mr Almond said to George before leaving late in the evening.

It was a new atmosphere to George and even though it was his favorite kind of environment, he wasn't comfortable.

"I wish my sweetheart was here," he muttered while unpacking his stuff.

Later at night, he climbed to the lantern room and the view was magnificent from the peak of the lighthouse. It was night but the full moon was there to light up the ocean. He could see far and wide, the vast expanse of the ocean, and it was exciting.

"Wow! This is awesome," He marvelled at the beauty that unfolded before his eyes.

"Sweetheart, can you see this?" He asked.

George turned back and reality dawned on him that he was alone. He thought about his fiancee again and went back to his small space in the lighthouse.

He reached for his coffee pot and went back to the lantern room where he brewed coffee for himself. The satisfaction he derived from the coffee hit differently as he gazed at the moon's reflection on the ocean.

Nights passed and George had settled in well on the lonely Island. He was enjoying his coffee in the lantern room one night when heard a crash sound outside the lighthouse and he quickly rushed to see what it was from the top but nothing was there.

"Are there bears here?" He pondered for a few seconds and while pointing his giant torch around, he noticed a figure run into the rock behind the lighthouse.

George turned off his small lamp and left the lantern room with the intention of checking around in the morning but his unwanted guest couldn't wait for George to find him in the morning.

He was barely asleep when he heard someone breaking into the lighthouse. George quickly got out of his bed and grabbed his service rifle. He hid behind his room door waiting patiently for the trespasser to walk into his trap.

It happened as predicted but George was speechless and frozen at the sight of the man standing before him. The man's fangs gleamed in the dim light, revealing his primal nature. His claws extended from his fingertips like daggers ready to strike.

"What are you? Where did you come from?" George's lips trembled and his hands weren't left out.

Sweat poured profusely from his face as the fangs man locked eyes on George for a while before going about sniffing every object in the room.

"Get out of here before I shoot you!" George screamed at the vampire who snarled back at him. He felt chills run through his veins as those fangs made him terrified.

He finally stopped growling and grabbed George's coffee pot.

"I do not mean to frighten you. I am Mark," the vampire stuttered.

He sounded almost inaudible and George didn't believe what he heard.

"I am frightened already. Please don't hurt me," George replied.

"I won't hurt you and I am just here to feed," Mark replied.

George started shaking, he remembered some vampire stories and their blood-sucking habit.

"It's your lucky day because I am not what you think I am. Coffee is all I came for not blood," Mark replied.

"Coffee? You can have everything," George shivered.

"The aroma of your Robusta coffee made me want to feed badly tonight," Mark replied.

"Is he fake? Are those costumes?" George thought as he imagined what kind of vampire feeds on coffee.

"Be careful with your thoughts," Mark warned as he flashed those fangs again.

"I can brew some for you but don't hurt me please," George pleaded.

Mark paced around as he watched George prepare the coffee, he didn't stop growling and George's heart wouldn't stop racing either.

They moved from the small room to the lantern house and somehow, George felt a bit relaxed. He watched Mark empty the coffee at a go and pour him more cups until he was satisfied.

"But how?" George stuttered.

"I was twenty-eight that year, I went camping in the woods and found some coffee beans in a sacred room in the depths of the woods. Out of curiosity, I brewed it and this happened" Mark replied and George was shocked.

"When did that happen?" George asked.

"Isn't this 1963? I am a bit over two centuries old now,"* Mark replied and stared a George as his eyes glowed.

"You won't remember anything by dawn," Mark whispered and jumped down from the lantern room.

"What did you say," George screamed and rushed to check on Mark who disappeared into the dark immediately after he landed.

George couldn't comprehend all that happened, he slapped himself several times hoping he would wake up from his dreams but it was real.

Mark had left but George still felt his presence. He rushed down to lock the lighthouse door but going back to sleep was the last thing on his mind.

He returned to the lantern room and brewed coffee for himself. He eventually slept off there and by morning, he couldn't remember anything.

George realised he had emptied the coffee pack that should have lasted him for a week overnight.

"Did I finish this?" He thought and admitted he did. Mark visited him often but George still never understood why he always ran out of coffee very much earlier than he should.
