Striking The Balance Between Work And Earning.

avatar
(Edited)

Nothing is balanced in the world and the saying that all fingers aren't equal doesn't just end with every individual standard of living, it involves quite a lot of things including how people get paid for their effort and service. The issue of all workers getting equal pay isn't a discussion I am having for the first time and as lovely as it would be, it is very complicated. Humans are known to always take advantage of situations and I wouldn't expect anything less than that to happen if people are being paid equal wages or salary.

Although we think it is unfair with the difference in wages or salary now but making it equal still wouldn't bring fairness. Let's look at it from a perspective where everyone on the Hive blockchain is earning equally regardless of what they post, it will definitely reduce the quality of content shared on the platform. A lot of people would feel like why should they put in more effort when their earnings will still be the same. It becomes a problem when a lot of members on Hive start feeling that way and it definitely wouldn't end well.

Companies or organisations adopting the idea of equal pay would be a huge setback in whatever they are paying people for because a lot of people will take it for granted, they will reduce their effort and still expect equal pay with those who are giving their best. It's best to just pay people according to the effort they are putting into work just like it happening on the Hive blockchain. I believe that's the best approach if we want to be fair but that wouldn't happen in a system where educational qualification has a huge influence on salaries or wages which isn't bad.

It's no new thing to everyone that labour doesn't equal pay because if that's not the case, mechanics and scavengers should earn the biggest wages or salary but it is the other way around. In many organisations, the people who do the most physical jobs earn the least wages or salary. It can be very annoying to see people sitting in the office earning lots of money than the people doing the hard work, it's demotivating.

My few years as a supervisor made me hate the work system in the country. The highest incentive I got at work was 30,000 at the end of a successful month while my boss got 200,000 monthly for what?

Sitting in the office pressing his computer right? It would be unfair to say they are doing nothing because they are actually doing something but the pay wasn't fair. The salary difference is huge enough and I feel demotivated many times to work because I feel cheated, working all day in the sun to ensure we meet targets and in the end get stipends.

My riders must be feeling the same way about me because they ride across the street of Lagos just to make sales and they get 18,000 as an incentive monthly. They will also feel like I am doing nothing but I hold bigger responsibility than they do just like my boss does more than me. The issue of equal pay is a broad discussion and as I said earlier, it's quite complicated.

Wages and salaries are determined by factors which include effort, skills, educational qualification, experience and others. Since every company have salary structures, I think it's best to focus on incentives rather than paying equal salary. If some set of staff are enjoying the benefits of having high qualifications, some set should enjoy the hard labour they are putting into making the organisation run smoothly.

The last time I had this conversation with someone, he mentioned that the head will always be the head meaning those at the top have to earn more. I don't have an issue with that but how open are we to the fact that there is no head when the other part of the body is missing?

There is division of labour for a reason, it's impossible for just one person to do all the duties and since everyone impact matters, all workers should be treated fairly.

Incentives would go a long way in creating a balance but the idea of equal salary will never bring fairness.

Why do I have to go to school and acquire all sorts of skills when I can get into an organisation as a cleaner and earn the same money as the manager? I bet the zeal to do better than anyone will be lost forever and when there is no healthy competition between workers in an organisation, growth will be impossible.

Exactly, the last line says it all why do I have to undergo so much stress when the pay is equal after all. So we all go for less stressful jobs, leaving the stressful ones.

You are right bro, everyone will go for the cheaper jobs so who will do the tedious ones?

Equal pay can never be the solution to fairness, thanks for the contribution bro.

Great text, certainly encouraging people to specialize, can and does make a difference towards better conditions, which can motivate employees to work more focused on the company's evolution.

In the case of rights, equality is good but in the case of equal payment, I think it will be unfair to many people because many people will take advantage of it. Your example of Hive is an amazing one and I liked it very much. I believe that everyone should receive payment based on their ability so that they will try to keep improving their ability.

People's contribution to the growth of a company should determine what they get at the end of the job. A lot of things set the standards and it's certain that people will definitely take the equal salary/wages thing for granted.

Yes, we can't receive same pay just like you gave a good example of hive Blockchain where we make different post. Some just make post and some make very good quality post.
Thanks for sharing

Thanks for the contribution. Hive is indeed a good illustration and the difference in our earnings is one of the reasons why everyone is putting in extra effort. If everyone earns the same money, there will be lots of shitpostsost flying around on the blockchain.

Yeah, you have made great points. Incentives bring about motivation, that zeal to keep doing what you do but equal salary won't bring about fairness rather inefficiency and ineffective management.

Humans are known to always take advantage of situations and I wouldn't expect anything less than that to happen if people are being paid equal wages or salary.

It's equitable in payment structure that will make everyone see the real human nature, nobody cares because everyone is going home with same thing at month end.

There will be setbacks strong enough to end the operations of many companies or organizations. There won't be a need to put effort and productivity will equally vanish as well.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment...

Hello there, George. I totally agree with you. Companies or organisations adopting the idea of equal pay would be a huge setback. O don't think it would be a good idea because it would really reduce the level of professionalism. Workers would stop striving for promotion and growth. If you would get the same pay as others, why work hard?

There wouldn't be any reason to put more effort into the job which would eventually see companies and other organizations struggle. It definitely wouldn't be a good idea, thanks for the visit bro.

Nice input. My question is, how do you see the uneven earnings of different professions? A Medical Doctor earning bigger than a teacher.

The difference in professional salary is a discussion I usually don't want to get into because it is quite complicated. Teaching is one of the undervalued professions and a lot of people don't realise that without teachers, doctors can't be made.

It's best to just say that every profession should be treated fairly.
