The Importance Of Rules; A Lesson Learned The Hard Way.

(Edited)

Rules are an essential part of the society, and they are guidelines or principles made to keep orderliness in a country, association and even in organizations no matter the size. The importance of having rules can't be quantified in whatever setting we are involved in whether big or small, and the absence of it comes with great consequences.

As humans, we develop ideas on how to make things comfortable for us no matter the situation we find ourselves in. We want to do a lot of things our way which isn't bad but sometimes, these things we do for our good might be to the detriment of others which is why making rules is very important.

For instance, one of the rules Nigerians break every day is the traffic rule. All in the name of beating traffic, drivers opt in to drive on the wrong way just to save time but they eventually cause problems for other people plying the same road. To prevent the dangers attached to driving in the wrong way and others are why we have traffic rules, they are there to regulate our actions and behaviours on the road since these rules protect the interest of everyone.

There is a common saying in my place that When there are no rules, there are no crimes which is true because when there is nothing governing the people or restricting them from committing atrocities, there will be chaos and nobody will be faulted because there are no rules to guide people.

I have many times imagined what a lawless world would look like, it will definitely expose the evil that lives in the hearts of men. People knowing that they can get away with anything they do since there are no rules will automatically make the world a terrible place because even with rules, there is no orderliness. People steal, kill and commit numerous atrocities despite knowing they will get punished, now imagine if there won't be punishment for even the worst crime a man can commit.

Despite how much we try to abide by many of these rules, breaking some of them is just inevitable. Sometimes, we believe some things are the right thing to do and we do not care about any rules at that point.

I am not a saint when it has to do with breaking rules and even though I wasn't caught, life taught me a lesson. This particular experience wouldn't have hurt me much but the fact that I broke the rules for someone's sake made me mad when the consequences kicked in.

One of my best riders back then was stopped at work after his probably 4th bike accident which the last one almost claimed his life.

He has been loyal to the company and I felt that wasn't a better judgement. I thought instead of kicking him out, they could put him in a place where he wouldn't be exposed to road accidents. He was hardworking, he had bills to take care of and his aged parents depended on him as well, all of these wouldn't make me stop finding a way to help him back into the system which was against the company rules.

Immediately after he was stopped, one of my tricycle guys told me he would quit at the end of that month so I thought it was best to replace him with the bike rider that was sacked since he could also ride a tricycle. I told the guy about it and he was happy, he even promised not to let me down.

I did all I had to do but the company must never know about it. In the company's book, the tricycle guy was still working but it was the opposite in reality. There is a way we convert salaries for debtors, I used the means to stop the tricycle guy from getting salary and everything worked out well.

Since the guy that was sacked can't appear at any distributor's place, I got products for him and this dude stabbed me in the back immediately.

He absconded with the first product I got for him worth almost 200k and he made it clear that it was his way of taking revenge on the company. The company was not affected in any way and if it becomes an issue, I will take the hit.

Every effort to make this guy come back to his senses failed, he took the cash and even hid the new tricycle I gave to him. My job was on the line and I had to start paying the debt before the company discovered what I did.

It took me months to retrieve the tricycle and I regret ever breaking the company rules because of the guy. I couldn't believe I did all of that for nothing and the fact that I had no selfish intention behind everything made it more painful. I gained nothing and even lost a lot of money.

I came to realize that there is a reason for every rule in any organization, many of these rules came in place after something similar had happened. After the experience, I vowed never to break rules for any reason and if I am desperate to help anyone, I have to do it without breaking rules no matter how small it might be and if I am helpless, so be it.

Off a truth there is a reason for every single rule in an organization. The traffic rule is the widely let down rule in our dear country.

Hmmm, imagine how humans can make other look foolish. Am glad you retrieved the tricycle while your job still intact.

That's right, rules are just made without a reason and it's best when we just stick to them.

The guys indeed made me look stupid, I learned my lesson though.

You're right, every organization has reasons for policies and rules. It was bad of him to have repaid you with such act. It's scary doing favours to people we do not really know

I was blinded by his condition, he would have survived if I hadn't helped him and he just hindered another opportunity he could have gotten from me after.

Life happens and I learned that some things are not just worth doing.

I wish you had sacked him, because you violate the company's rules for him and yet he put you such situations. some times it is better we let people face the consequences because if they don't they wouldn't know the gravity of what they did

You are right, my good heart only got me into trouble after all. It's sad how things ended but I am glad the company didn't know about everything because that could have made things worse.

I agree with you too that there's a reason behind every rule and we should follow those too, sad for you that you lost your money but happy for you too that now you try to follow rules 😃

Lolz, I learned the learned a hard way and never tried breaking rules for anyone. If I will do, it will be for myself so whatever comes after it will be well deserved.

To help others we often break the rules, so we must be more cautious and think about the consequences of breaking a rule and assume them. There is a reason why the rules of a company are written, if we break them we put our job at jeopardy.

My mistake was not thinking that he could betray me. There is a huge chance of the company not knowing but I didn't think he could betray me.

Rules are rules truly and they must be kept.

There's always lesson to be deduced for everything. Whenever runs are broken one faces the consequences. I believed you have learnt from that experience.

That's true, there is always a consequence even though it's not the actual punishment.

Some people are naturally ungrateful, and this is not written on the forehead but is only seen in their attitudes

If we could see through people, we wouldn't make some mistakes in life. It's all good because I learned never to break rules for anyone. In most cases, the people we do it for go scot free.

Chai... Some stories you'll hear and they'll just make you weep. This is why when some people refuse to help out and others call them selfish we think it's just who they are. It's because of people like these that have shown them shege.
That guy now just burnt a bridge that he will never cross again. No one knows tomorrow, he better not need your help in future because that's the worst kind of karma that would hit him.
It's sad to think that the person you believed was worth breaking the rules for doesn't even see you as worth it as well.

See someone you tried to help, some people are just so evil minded. You broke the for a good reason but rules are rules, what we see as right can never be superior to it. I'm glad you learnt your lessons

WOW 😲. That guy had the mind to do what he did to you by running away with the money and make you pay. This is very bad. Sometimes when you see people refusing to help, it is from something that has happened to them. So sorry about that.

What I should say? There's a proverb that " A dog's tail can never be straight". The person done the same thing. You tried to help him but his revenge motive make you pay loss. I think it's very necessary to know are those person deserve the help or not.

Naija people are natural public rule breakers. I think it has been wired into our genetics.😂 You would see that a pedestrian bridge was constructed, but the people will stick break down walls to cross the highway funnily- running helter-skelter across the road to escape a raging oncoming vehicle. At times, I wonder, who did this to us?🤣
