The Secret Room

"Aren't you sleeping?" Nick asked Jessy as she walked into the living room around 2 a.m.

"I woke up to use the bathroom and didn't see you by my side so I decided to check the living room," she replied.

"I was seeing a program but it ended already, we can go back to bed together." Nick replied to.

"Oh, okay." Jessy said as she looked at the TV cable that wasn't connected to the power source. Moreover, they ran out of subscription last night which Nick wasn't aware of because he was out late at night.

They returned to the room and Jessy couldn't take her mind off what Nick said in the living room.

Jessy returned early from work the next day and immediately she saw the TV, she remembered what Nick said again. She turned on the TV to see if he had subscribed but he hadn't.

"Nick comes to the sitting room at midnight, what could he be doing? Could he be talking to another girl?" Jessy thought as she scanned the sitting but found nothing suspicious.

"I will see what he is up to this midnight," Jessy said as she went to prepare dinner.

The lovers finished dinner and Jessy retired to bed first. She had the thought of sneaking to the sitting room but Nick didn't leave the room that night and the nights after.

It was the weekend after the lovers finished breakfast, Nick suggested they see a movie so they returned to the living room.

"Nick the other night, you lied about seeing a program. Why did you lie?" Jessy asked immediately after the movie started.

"What do you mean, sweetheart? I wasn't lying to you," Nick replied to her and paused the movie.

"Yes, you lied because the TV wasn't plugged and there wasn't even a subscription on the cable," she replied sharply and Nick burst into laughter.

"My bad, did I say TV the other night? I meant the TV app on my phone."

Nick drew her to himself, he assured Jessy that he never lied and wouldn't lie to her. She didn't have a choice other than to believe him and they resumed seeing the movie again.

Monday morning came and Jessy prepared work immediately after coffee but Nick didn't.

"You are a lazy man, Nick. Not going to work because you are the owner of your business is terrible." Jessy teased him severally before heading out for work.

She was three blocks away when she remembered that she left a document at home.

"Let me just go with my leg instead of turning around again," Jessy muttered as she turned off the car ignition.

She walked quickly and was at the gate within a minute. Jessy was carrying her keys so she just went inside the house immediately unlike days when she would forget them and call Nick to help her open the gate.

Jessy got in and everywhere was quiet, she went upstairs to get the document and there was no sign of Nick. She wanted to call him but her phone was in the car.

"I saw his car outside just now," Jessy stuttered as she looked through the window again.

She checked the whole apartment but didn't find him. Nick's bunch of keys was on the dining table so Jessy was sure he didn't leave the house.

Jessy eventually gave up and as she was heading out of the living room because of time, she heard a beeping sound from the small bookshelf and turned to see what it was.

The shelf gently moved to the right and a yellow door appeared. The door opened as well and she saw Nick stepping out of a room.

"Jessy, I thought you left for work." Nick stuttered.

"Yes, I did. Can you explain to me what I just saw now?" Jessy replied.

"I was going to tell you but..." Nick stuttered again.

"But what Nick? You have a secret room in the house, is that where you sneak in at night? You bring ladies in right and keep them there." Jessy went on shouting and every effort to make her stop was in vain.

"Please stop, it's not what you think" Nick shouted back at her.

"Really? Thank God I agreed to your courtship idea, God knows what else you are hiding" Jessy replied and left the house angrily.

Jessy had to call a cab because she was too angry to drive to work. Her day didn't go well and instead of returning to Nick's apartment, she went to her sibling's place.

Nick tried reaching her throughout the day but she didn't pick up. He was disturbed she didn't return home and didn't stop calling even at night.

Jessy's phone rang again while trying to sleep and her sibling picked it up.

"Please stop calling Jessy, at least you aren't married to her yet." Alex replied and ended the call even before Nick could say hello.

Nick felt good she was safe, he recognized Alex's voice and went to his residence very early the next morning.

Alex was pissed to see him and telling Nick to leave woke Jessy.

"Isn't that Nick's voice, how did he know I am here and what's he doing here?"

Jessy got out of the room angrily and joined Alex in telling Nick to leave.

"Please, even if you won't be with me anymore, you should know the truth." Nick said and Jessy decided to listen to him.

"Can we go in?" Nick asked.

"In where?" Alex snapped at him.

"Alex, let him come in please." Jessy persuaded her brother and he agreed.

"I am sorry I lied to you, the truth is that I went into this relationship because I needed someone who works in High Tech. The company is running illegal work and I was sent to investigate. I ran a check on their staff and knew you were the perfect catch so I attended the company end of year party where we met."

Jessy didn't believe her ears and Alex was shocked, the two were stunned at the confession.

"The secret room is my workspace where I communicate with the headquarters and others. I do not own a company and just leave the house to make you feel okay since you don't like an idle man and I can't tell you my job"

He went on telling Jessy how he had bugged her phone which gave him access to the company server whenever she connects it the company server. Nick confessed that the courtship was just to have access to Jessy's phone always.

"You did all of this? You never loved me and just used me for your job? You are the cruelest human I have met in my life and you will suffer for this Nick, I promise you" Jessy replied and burst into tears.

"I am sorry, it was all work initially but I fell in love with you along the line." He replied.

"You should start going now," Alex said to Nick when Jessy started crying.

Nick left but didn't stop begging for Jessy's forgiveness on call and with text messages.

Weeks passed and she went to retrieve her things from Nick's place. Jessy was done packing when Nick knelt in front of her, he pleaded with tears and confessed his love again.

He was willing to quit his job if that would appease Jessy, he wept bitterly and she got really emotional as well.

"You shouldn't have lied, I felt used and that hurts. That fact that you didn't love me from the onset makes me sick, I can handle this Nick"

Jessy replied and hugged Nick for the last time before walking out of his apartment.

They both wept bitterly, it wasn't an easy decision but she didn't want to continue and it was the end for them.

Ha, Nick really had a bad intention for dating Jessy but eventually fell in love with her, well it's a good thing he was honest and now they both can enjoy a good relationship away from deception.

He had bad intentions really which made Jessy pissed, I get you misunderstood the end. Jessy called off the relationship because she couldn't remain in the relationship knowing that she was used from on the onset.

The feeling of genuinely loving a faked love can be so painful.

From the story, Jessy should have given him a chance to right his wrongs. But also, a player always remains a player.

It can really painful to be deceived or used in a relationship and I can relate to her not giving him a second chance.

The foundation of the relationship wasn't built on love which is the most important thing for every relationship.

Yeah, and it's tendency to stay on good ground of love is unpredictable. It might start well but the future is unpredictable

Good story, built mainly from well-structured dialogues. I liked that the ending was realistic. Jessy's decision seemed to me the best thing for both of them. Greetings.

Thanks for the compliment, the end had to be realistic because I can't imagine myself doing the same.

If I remain in such relationship, it will cause me mood swing whenever I remember the foundation of the relationship.

Nick falling in love along the line is unprofessional. Jessy took the right decision. She was used because the first connecting point is investigation and not love.
