The Wake-Up call - The rise of the underdogs.

Argentina's loss to Saudi Arabia was a wake-up call for the big football nations at the ongoing World Cup. While some countries took it seriously, others decided to turn down the call which eventually backfired.

Lots of upset isn't what we usually see in a single World Cup tournament but things are gradually taking a new turn with the game of football.

It all started with Argentina and it looks like there will be a whole lot more in the competition as it progresses.

I looked at the German national team lineup before the kickoff and I was certain about them winning the Japanese even though it might be with a small goal difference. They have got stars from different leagues and they look super ready just like the Argentines. Aside from the starters, you will agree with me that the Germans have players on the bench who could change the rhythm of a match from bad to good but none of them could make the needed difference in the encounter.

A lot of things were similar between Germany and Argentina's loss. Just like Argentina took the lead from the spot kick in the first half against Saudi Arabia, Gündoğan converted from the spot kick to give Germany the lead in the first half.

We were expecting the big boys to seal the victory in the second half but they did otherwise.

Japan got the opportunity to punish them in the second half and didn't hesitate to utilize their chances.

Both goals came in the last fifteen minutes of the match and they sent a message across the world not to be counted among the World Cup underdogs. The Germany squad have put themselves in a tight spot as their progress to the knockout stage which was suppose to be smooth is now difficult because they have to beat both Spain and Costa Rica to be sure of a ticket to the next round.

Another win for Spain and Japan will definitely send them into the knockout stage, Germany's future in Qatar is hard to predict.

While Germany failed to clinch victory in their first match in Qatar, Spain showed no mercy to the Costa Rica national football team.

England's most scoring record in a single match at the ongoing World Cup was canceled by the Spanish side. While the English side score six goals against Iran, Costa Rica conceded seven times against Spain.

Costa Rica pose to be a country with great potential but they were completely wiped out by the Spanish national team. It was a smooth ride for Luis Enrique and his boys, their morale must have reached the sky at the moment, and will be eager to pounce on the other teams in the group.

Spain has shown to be one of the title contenders and I can't wait to see how far they will go in the competition.

We still have some matches before the first round ends and I am still open to more surprises. I don't know which team will still face humiliation but I am certain their loss will only add more to the excitement of the World Cup.

I was certain Germany will trash Japan but never expected that comeback, this world cup is already giving very football fans the heat of the competition. Now Germany has to beat Spain and Costa Rica to qualify for the next round, it might be the end for the German side the competition already.
