Fate - An original short story - Edited version

Sylvia grabbed her handbag and took her chance of leaving the restaurant as quickly as possible, while her date was still in the bathroom. She had never met such a self-centered bastard and she was definitely not desperate enough to find out more about him.

She agreed to go out with him on demand of her friend Cindy, but he was definitely not her cup of tea and she was not that desperate. Just because she turned thirty last week and had no boyfriend did not make her desperate. She was quite content living alone with her darling cat and by no means ready to give up her independence.

She was so sick of everyone trying to find her a husband. She has always believed that the right person will come along at the right time, but she has never gone out of her way to look. She's been on quite a few dates in her lifetime, but it was never the right person, and there were always something that bothered her. She realized that there was no such thing as a perfect man but seriously she had her standards.

The last person she went out with was more than a year ago, and they became quite close as friends but he was dating someone else now and felt more like a brother to her than anything else.

She kept on watching the bathroom door on her way out, and luckily made it out before Geoffrey the Great made his way out of the bathroom.

Sylvia rushed out the door and made her way to the corner where her car was parked, as fast as possible. There was no looking back now. She turned towards the corner and kept on looking back to do the great escape, without Geoffrey catching her, and was still in such a hurry that she didn't look where she was going.

She collided with someone, lost her balance and landed on the curb. He was there in two ticks to help her up and apologized profusely. He was also in a hurry and didn't see her coming.

Sylvia got up as quickly as possible and looked back towards the restaurant. She saw Geoffrey the great standing at the entrance obviously searching for her.

She jumped to get around the corner so he wouldn't notice her and Henry started laughing.

"Aahh the great escape. I've done a few of those myself lately."

Sylvia looked starstruck. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you too...I was trying to get away as quickly as possible."

Henry held out his hand to her and introduced himself.

"Henry Brooks, single...and not looking.."

Sylvia laughed. "Sylvia Sanders. Happy to be single and also not looking..."

"Well Sylvia Single...seeing that fate brought us together, would you like to grab a drink with me. It seems like you really need it."

"I actually do need a drink, and seeing that I am currently on a date, that would be lovely."

Sylvia felt very relaxed with Henry and he even made a joke while going to the bathroom about her not running away.

They chatted for hours and for some reason they felt as if they have known each other for years. At the end of the evening Henry walked her back to her car and they made another date for the following evening.

Sylvia drove away feeling totally relaxed. This had been the best date ever, and she was actually looking forward to another one.

She smiled at herself. Perhaps she does have more space in her life, than just her cat. Only time will tell.

Hey there, my dad passed away so I haven't been on steemit a lot. My mom is really suffering without him. A lot has changed on steemit so take it slow and try to figure out what is going on like the rest of us. We just take it one day at a time here now.
