WALKING THE SPACES OF THE CENTRAL LIBRARY OF THE CENTRAL UNIVERSITY OF VENEZUELA

image.png

Welcome everyone to this new publication that I make with the purpose of being able to show to the community and the curious about the Architecture and design in general of the Central Library of the Central University of Venezuela, located in Venezuela, Capital District.

Recently, within the facilities of each one of the faculties, different events were held regarding the day of the University Student; Therefore, one of the activities for the benefit of every student was to be able to enter the University facilities and get a book that is convenient for them, that is, in my case, for the career that course, look for those related to Mathematics, Spanish o Research Methodology, Accounting and Architecture by Hive

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO SHOW THE ARCHITECTURE AND INTERNAL DESIGN OF A LIBRARY?

image.png

image.png

This library itself is special for being declared a cultural heritage for students at a national level, since the main objective is that all students, both outside the university and within it, can develop and acquire new knowledge on universal topics.

From an architectural point of view, this place is known for its large stained glass window that is located near the main entrance and that this work plays the role of an artistic glass wall; Even so, there are support beams so that the structure does not give in to the weakness of the glass section; Another point that stands out is the study room which has a modern design despite the fact that it was last remodeled in 2012.

Therefore, it is vital for me to show a part of the architectural cultural heritage that is inside the facilities, such as the Central Library.

Passing the main entrance, a large space opened before me that I would say is the main room or main lobby, since here is a first reception where you can appreciate the architecture of the place and see from a distance the floors that are there, because the They are restricted to the public at the moment.

In the same way, what stands out in this first place is the great amplitude that it has that could be used to give small teaching workshops to 10 people, motivated by the fact that because it is a library, silence or discretion is requested by the students who develop their intellect by analyzing the books found within the facility.

My first impression when seeing the whole place as a single unit is that it was pleasant, since both the walls and the columns have a dark wood cladding, which combines perfectly with the light colors of both the ceiling and the floor, which is made of white granite, these details are usually expensive, which is why I visually value the investment made when creating a space like this, since wood never goes out of style.

image.png

Another interesting detail is the way in which the architects create thick curvilinear walls out of nothing that support the structure of the library building, but at the same time the visual context is something attractive to see and appreciate.

image.png

image.png

Passing the second entrance door, the library area opens up, where a diverse number of shelves are shown, divided among themselves by the theme of the books that are on each shelf.

image.png

image.png

For me, the most interesting thing is to know that in addition to having different simple-style wooden tables so that each student can place their books, folding chairs are also placed in the same space for people who want to read a literary or novelistic book more comfortably. .

There is visually a small incongruity in seeing that right in this space all the chairs placed are different in terms of style, shape and color, but all in some strange way, all the placed elements manage to combine with the red fluffy carpet and the coffee table. wood.

Another point in favor of the structure is that the Library space has a small covered outdoor corridor; This does not have much artificial lighting, so the large opening in the outer frame favors the entry of natural light both in the corridor and inside the library, which means that the entire external and internal space is fully illuminated during the day. which is important when studying and reading.

The view from the outside is totally impressive, so much so that during my visit I had inadvertently stayed for around 15 minutes observing the sky and all the people who were walking in the green areas of the campus.

My experience was really very pleasant, the guards guided me at all times and although I could not get the book I wanted, being able to visit this part that makes up the great Central University of Venezuela was an honor as a student-visitor, therefore, in effect I recommend that when you can take a look at the architecture such as the internal spaces shown and those that may be available to the public.

I hope you have a happy week.

This library has very harmonious spaces, no wonder it is part of the university city of the UCV, as an architectural heritage of Venezuela.

You are right, the only relatively bad thing was knowing that at the moment only floor 1 is available for viewing, even so, one can enter with their own books or notebooks to study on the wooden tables in silence

Hello @ginethchira2301. Congrats to your country of Venezuela for actively maintaining libraries - goldmines for the intellectuals, learners, and students! It's a pity though that some nations have neglected this type of architectural gem due to the advancement of the Internet and other digital resources for educational purposes. 😊

Do you believe libraries have a bright future? Why and why not?

You are right in that there are many countries where libraries are being left behind by free navigation on the internet, I must even say that I also download books, the real benefit of the library is to be able to have the physical book and also the structure as its arrangement allows you to enter a place where you can observe the silence that exists inside the room, where you can be sure that a sister, father or mother will not enter screaming or where simply here the functionality is to find peace, harmony and concentration of the students.

When I arrived I felt that peace, that silence and I could appreciate the concentration of several students who were taking notes in their notebooks with the books next to them and others reading totally focused on the book, it is because of them that the libraries are still standing although they are no longer it is given the same value as before @storiesoferne ☺️👍🏻

Indeed. You have an excellent point there. It's all about finding genuine peace including the conducive atmosphere typically enforced in libraries when immersing in learning experiences. That's why it's crucial for the surrounding architecture to achieve that goal of providing tranquility within these spaces. Hopefully, our digital generations will keep up with that tradition of serenity in libraries everywhere. 😊

Hopefully we hope this is the case or more libraries with unparalleled architecture are made so that it also has a great tourist attraction as a heritage

I love that - libraries becoming tourist attractions - however without the noise, haha. 🤣 Thank you for featuring this marvelous treasure of architecture from Venezuela! 😊

Beautiful Library friend, I really like the places where there are many books, reading for me is life. Near my house is the National Library of Cuba and I want to show it too, I have to go and photograph it, it is as spectacular as yours in Venezuela, Greetings 🤗❤️

Its architecture is regal. Simple and comfortable at the same time. I liked the outside hallway and the view of the place. I have never had the opportunity to go inside, except for the outside areas of the university which is a beauty. Tell me what days it is open, so I can try to go in and spend those 15 minutes looking at the outside and browse the books. Although I think you look first in a kardex, we called it in my time.

If I can tell you a schedule, I really don't know since I don't frequent the place, but I could tell you that it is generally open from Monday to Friday to the public and to students. When I entered the truth, they did not ask me for any identification, they just told me to look for the book through a system and so I could know which shelf to find the book on.

In any case, I leave you this photograph that I took where the library's social networks appear and even the website so that you can consult what you need, you know @tibaire
