How Do I Curate?

I am always excited to be a part of the DCC contests. This week is about curation and you can lend us your knowledge by joining the contest: DCC tag contest - Let's support #curation

What Is Curation?

In my words, curation is the act of selecting posts based on several underlining factors like quality, originality and message. A post made by a content creator must be with the intention of passing a message across to the readers. Who would want to engage or curate a post that isn't passing any message across anyway?

How do you personally usually curate?

I curate based on my interests. How else would I curate a post that I have little or no understanding of? That's not to say that I don't go out of my depth to curate other posts, I do, but I would be curating based on quality, originality and the message it passed across but I just might not be able to engage it in the comment section.

Just like @dagobert007 said in the curation report here

To provide you with the highest quality experience, we diligently search for not only Camping Content, Travel Stories, Photography, and even Culture, but also content outside the CCH community.

Sometimes you have to search outside your scope and I do that most times due to the quality other users bring to the table.

How the curation should be done by the community?

Just as it was mentioned above, it should be done with fairness and based on quality without any prejudice. I can imagine having to select several posts and narrow them down. It's not easy and I know I might not fully understand how @clixmoney does it or @galenkp but I know it's not an easy thing to do. Being saddled with that responsibility, it's about picking the originality, word count and also the message being passed.

What you would do if you were a whale?

If I am lucky enough to be saddled with that responsibility or through sheer hard work and I got to that level, I would curate undervalued posts while searching for tags that are commonly used or visit communities that I currently know. It's to give encouragement to many because most people don't get the value their posts deserve.

What's the importance of curation?

It's to encourage others so they can consistently produce their best. It's easier for people to drop the ball when they are being curated based on familiarity. If we base it on quality, a lot of people would have a fair chance to stake their claim because they know their voice would be heard. They would know that it's about consistently giving their best so they wouldn't want to drop the ball.

This is why I would always appreciate @olawalium and this isn't because I know him personally but because for several years now, the quality of his posts stay the same. I've never seen that man drop a short post or speak on things he didn't understand. He pours his heart into his posts and that is a good motivation for me and many others out there.

I also adore the in-depth knowledge of G-Dog @galenkp. I've come across his post several times and I must say, he is "worded" and smart. His quality is top-notch and no wonder he consistently demands quality from us during the Weekend challenge.

Curation is about finding the best quality out there and rewarding it. It is a way of encouraging a user and indirectly telling that person "I see you. Keep doing your best." Every little bit helps and that tiny bit can encourage others to not drop the ball because they know they have been seen and heard.

Cheers.

Gingered Up! ❣️
