And, of course, I also congratulate all actors in the coffee sector, be it baristas, farmers, coffee roasters, and coffee equipment makers. You are great people because, with you, we, as coffee lovers, can enjoy various kinds of coffee today. And for coffee equipment makers, you are also great because you continue to innovate in making coffee equipment, starting from the most sophisticated to the simplest, so some of us can take it with us when traveling or making coffee at home.

And, of course, with your presence, we can live our days in a good mood by drinking a cup of coffee from baristas. Coffee beans also are processed in such a way by farmers, then processed again by coffee roasters to bring out the character of each coffee bean and increasingly sophisticated coffee tools in extracting coffee beans. So I am very happy to be able to enjoy those coffees.

But unfortunately, I have not been able to visit all coffee-related sectors. So I couldn't figure out the ins and outs until I finally met a barista named Mas Pepeng. Mas Pepeng is one of the baristas at the coffee shop, and he is also the owner of the coffee shop. So Mas Pepeng knows the flow and process of the coffee he serves.

From Mas Pepeng, I know so many stories about coffee. One of them is how the story he looks for coffee beans and finally can be served to customers. Mas Pepeng looks for and buys coffee beans directly from the farmers. Mas Pepeng doesn't buy from stores. And I asked him, "Wouldn't it be easier to buy in the store?" and of course, buying at the store will save more because we don't have to pay for transport when visiting the coffee garden. However, the answer turned out to be beyond my expectations.

At first, I thought every coffee shop was looking for as much profit as possible with the least expenditure. And that is also the basis of the economic principles I know. However, Mas Pepeng thinks differently because, according to him, when we know how the coffee beans are planted, we will appreciate each brewed coffee bean. In addition, he has a goal to prosper coffee farmers because many coffee farmers only know the science of planting without caring about the quality of coffee beans. Whereas the better the quality of coffee beans, the price of coffee beans will be higher, so it can improve the welfare of coffee farmers.

With good quality coffee beans, coffee roasters will also be able to improve the performance of the taste of each coffee bean, and with the expertise of the baristas, we can taste good coffee from good coffee beans. Hearing the answer from Mas Pepeng, I was speechless. Because finally, I found a barista who cares about the coffee process, from the farmer to the end.

Because I visit coffee shops quite often, many baristas only know about brewing techniques without knowing the flow of the coffee beans they brew. And Mas Pepeng is an exception because he is a barista and coffee shop owner who cares about the process of each coffee.

On a whim, I asked him, "Is it not a loss when you buy directly from farmers while the shop has to close when looking for coffee beans?" Mas Pepeng replied, "Every sustenance has its own dose and will never be confused. With the coffee shop closed, it means it's time to rest and have a vacation, because the brain and body also need a vacation. Sometimes with a vacation you can get ideas. new ideas in developing the business."

In addition to telling stories about coffee, Mas Pepeng likes to ask each of his customers, such as, "Have you had coffee today? What kind of coffee do you want? Do you like to drink coffee?" I think this is a sign of Mas Pepeng's attention to all his customers who come. Customers will take turns going in for served with Mas Pepeng.

Therefore, for his kindness and humility in serving customers, I award Mas Pepeng as the kind barista I have ever met. Because to be honest, I miss the coffee which he makes and the atmosphere in the coffee shop when I meet other visitors because we both like coffee.

It's always nice when the batista or shop owner is passionate about coffee and what they are doing and also cares about the process and farmers and all of that. Profits aren't everything.

Very nice article, @gituuuttt. How nice to lean about the process of being great coffee from the farm to the coffee shop, and to find a barista who is so passionate about coffee.
