Doing Street Photography To Challenge Myself

Since I do some holidays, I challenge myself to improve my feeling about photography. It's hard to get a good picture. Because I take a picture using an analog camera, I'm using Pentax ME for this. When using the digital camera, we can easily do some settings and see it on the screen, or you can use the automatic setting and take a moment. But an analog camera is about feeling, and you can view it on the viewfinder. And what you see on the viewfinder can't be precisely identical to the results. Because what you see is not what you get.

Using the analog camera is hard because I can't view the results simultaneously. And your results depend on what film you use when you take a picture, the lights when you shoot, and the aperture you use when you take the picture. And also, it depends on the shutter speed you use.

I did it several times, but the results are still not good. So I'm doing the research by remembering the light I'm shooting and aperture and shutter speed because we can't see the EXIF data when the film gets dev and scanned.

Luckily my Pentax camera has Shutter Speed priority on the setting. So I set the aperture, and the shutter speed will do the job automatically. It is easy. But it is not. The results show that some photos have been underexposed, and even the setting is correct. Because the backlight is more than the light on the object, the camera detected it's the right settings when I took the picture. I must use a larger aperture, but the background will be overexposed. But it's only in my imagination, and I don't know how about the results when I do this again.

Maybe some of you have some tips, and I will be happy to do it. Why I'm using the analog camera to take a picture? As I mentioned before, it's to challenge me to get a better image and feel better when using a digital camera. And also it's about the color on the film roll. You can't get the same color when you use a digital camera.

Here some the results:

You think I did the shoot with good exposure, right? Now you can see bad photos.

The object has been underexposed, and the background has been well exposed. So the camera is doing a great job, but I don't want the results like this. I want the object to have still a good exposure and maybe a slight overexposure in the background. So on the viewfinder, I see they all have a good exposure. But in reality, it is not.

Again, these photos have the same problem as the photos before.

Maybe we can discuss it. I'm pleased to have any tips. Because in this community, I see so many talented photographers.

Delicious photos, full of that pleasant anarchy of street images and crowded places. I like the photographic quality and the texture given with slight touches of grain, also the management of contrasts is very good. It's a work worthy of a big applause!.... Thanks for sharing @gituuuttt friend!

Hi! I have not been photographing with film for over 15 years (I hope to return one day) but what I can say is that practice is the best teacher. The knowledge of how your equipment reacts and the different types of films comes with experience. If the result with shutter speed priority is underexposed, try to see the values selected by the camera, go back to manual mode, and adjust those values perhaps modifying the speed or aperture to compensate. I remember that I carried a notebook with me where I wrote down the settings for each shot. Analog photography forces us to think a lot before shooting, but it's worth it. You can also force the film during the development, but that's another topic. Good luck and good shoots
