Today I knew about the results of a survey conducted by the PAXFUL platform to some Argentine citizens about the investment of Bitcoin, where I could see some interesting things to better understand why we still haven't had a greater adoption of the crypto and where we have to go as a community to continue growing.

I am not going to go deeper into the statistical data because it is easy to see some sampling errors that would make the data very biased towards crypto investors, so I will not take into account that more than 60% of the Argentines have invested in crypto, because having surveyed 1160 people online, and I imagine they could have reached by having some relationship with PAXFUL, it is to be expected that most of them have invested (since the company is based on buying and selling Bitcoin).

But one thing I can take from the results is that most of the respondents (who have invested), have done so as a protection against inflation, and it is what reminds me of the situation in Venezuela, where we have the option to buy crypto or buy dollars to protect ourselves (since it may be more difficult to buy gold), which makes the citizens of countries like these two, can choose only between 2 options, having the total money to invest divided into two large groups and you can see how the movements of buying and selling Bitcoin in these countries increases significantly, compared to other countries that might have more options to choose from.

In addition to this we have that among the people who have not invested yet, they express not having done so out of ignorance, which I personally think is truly the biggest reason why people are afraid to invest.

Let's just see that crypto have a reputation of being very volatile, and that added to the fact that it takes a little bit different knowledge than what is needed in other investments, it is the perfect mix to scare away potential investors who are trying to protect their money or increase it.

I personally think that one of the reasons why people stay away from investments or really many things in life is for fear that something bad might happen to us (in this case losing money), just as there are people who are afraid of dogs, butterflies and other phobic objects that do not necessarily represent a major risk for us.

I also think that fear is mainly based on not knowing what we are afraid of, let's just see how we approach what is known, and that even though it may represent a risk to our life, we only approach it in a cautious way (we don't walk away out of fear).

It is for this reason that I understand people who do not invest out of ignorance in the crypto, but I also know that this is the route we must take to create a greater adoption by society, the more we know about something, the less fear we have, and the less fear we have, the closer we get or in this case, we invest.

Hoy me entere de los resultados arrojados en una encuesta realizada por la plataforma PAXFUL a algunos ciudadanos argentinos sobre la inversión de Bitcoin, donde pude ver algunas cosas interesantes para poder entender mejor la razón por la que aún no hemos tenido una mayor adopción de las criptos y hacia donde tenemos que ir como comunidad para continuar creciendo.

No voy a profundizar en los datos estadísticos porque es fácil de ver algunos errores de muestreo que harían que los datos estén muy sesgados hacia los inversores en cripto, por lo que no tomare en cuenta que más del 60% de los argentinos han invertido en cripto, porque al haber encuestado a 1160 personas de forma online, y a los que me imagino que pudieron llegar por tener alguna relación con PAXFUL, es de esperarse que la mayoría hayan invertido (ya que la empresa se fundamenta en la compra y venta de Bitcoin).

Pero algo que sí puedo sacar de los resultados es que la mayoría de los encuestados (que han invertido), lo han hecho como protección a la inflación, y es lo que me recuerda a la situación en Venezuela, en la que tenemos la opción de comprar cripto o comprar dólares para protegernos (ya que puede ser más difícil comprar oro), lo que hace que los ciudadanos de países como estos dos, puedan elegir solo entre 2 opciones, teniendo que el total de dinero para invertir se divida en dos grandes grupos y que se puede ver como los movimientos de compra y venta de Bitcoin en estos países aumenta de forma importante, en comparación con otros países que podrían tener más opciones para elegir.

Además de esto tenemos que entre las personas que no han invertido aun, expresan no haberlo hecho por desconocimiento, lo que personalmente pienso que es verdaderamente la mayor razón por la que las personas tienen miedo e invertir.

Solo veamos que las criptos tienen fama de ser muy volátiles, y que sumado a que se necesita de un conocimiento un poco distinto a lo necesario en otras inversiones, es la mezcla perfecta para ahuyentar a posibles inversores que intentan proteger su dinero o aumentarlo.

Personalmente pienso que una de las razones por las que las personas se alejan de las inversiones o realmente de muchas cosas en la vida es por miedo a que algo malo nos pueda ocurrir (en este caso perder dinero), tal como hay personas que tienen miedo a los perros, mariposas y otros objetos fóbicos que no necesariamente representan un riesgo importante para nosotros.

También pienso que el miedo se basa principalmente en desconocimiento a aquello que nos da temor, solo veamos cómo nos acercamos a aquello que es conocido, y que aunque pueda representar un riesgo para nuestra vida, solo nos acercamos de forma cautelosa (no nos alejamos por miedo).

Es por esta razón que entiendo a las personas que no invierten por desconocimiento en las criptos, pero también sé que esta es la ruta que debemos tomar para crear una mayor adopción por parte de la sociedad, mientras más conozcamos de algo, menos miedo tendremos, y mientras menos miedo tengamos, más nos acercaremos o en este caso, invertiremos.
