A few days ago I heard a news that made me sad, and is that the first cryptocurrency exchange that I learned to use is going to close next year, and this exchange is called Localbitcoins, and I can say that it was one of the first because it has 10 years of operation, and this made it have a good experience in this area, but unfortunately it had several bad decisions that made it go through the same thing that happened with Blockbuster.

For those who do not know, Localbitcoins is an exchange that uses only Bitcoin as crypto, and works as a P2P exchange, so it requires that there are buyers and sellers of Bitcoin so it can have its benefits as an intermediary in the transaction, which is a very simple type of business but difficult to start if you do not have both parties needed in a trade.

My first experience with localbitcoins was in 2017 because my mother in law @aurodivys was working as a trader on that platform and I was interested in learning how to use it because the topic of cryptocurrencies gave me some interest, and it was also my first experience with cryptocurrencies, which I then taught my parents and started several businesses.

Today I must say that it is thanks to Localbitcoins that I am where I am, because without that first experience, I would not have started my remittance business, nor would I have learned to do arbitrage, much less I would have saved my profits to invest in what today are my assets, and that includes a part of my HP (because I made purchases of HIVE in my beginnings on the platform).

It's a shame to know what made Localbitcoins unable to continue, and that is that despite very excellent reputation on the platform, I had to stop using it because they did not adapt to the Stablecoins that became increasingly important in Venezuela, since they only handle Bitcoin on their platform, but the volatility as @taskmaster4450 here says, makes handling Bitcoin something unfeasible for businesses.

Binance is one of the platforms that was taking more and more prominence in the Venezuelan scene because it allowed using stablecoins to trade and make P2P exchanges, so we can consider that Binance is Netflix and Localbitcoins is Blockbuster, with the same unfortunate result, and that I understand first hand because in the same way that I taught how to use Localbitcoins in 2018, I also taught how to use Binance in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

We can say that the lack of innovation made another company die, even when we could say that it was within the top of companies in Venezuela, and that it could have had many experiences with its thousands of users who made trades of thousands of $ per month (including me), but because of bad decisions, it allowed another company to take that place away.

Personally, I have a lot to thank Localbitcoins for giving me the opportunity to meet many people in Latin America who showed me that cryptocurrencies have become something at a continental level, and that this is a technology that we can use internationally without problems, making our lives much easier.

I also have to thank you for the support I had to understand the different scams, because I was supported by the disputes team in several occasions, and this made me more aware of the creative ways that scammers have to catch their victims, and even more in a virtual way.

I have many joyful experiences with Localbitcoins, from the way I used to calculate exchange rates when I was in college classes, when I used to exchange from the treadmill at the Gym or lifting between weight sessions, I also traveled to the US and Cancun in 2021, using the exchange platform during the trip because Binance was not allowed in the US, and how it was the platform that supported me financially during the first months of the pandemic in 2020.

I will remember Localbitcoins with much affection, in the same way that I can remember a friendship that for life's reasons, no longer exists.

Hace unos dias supe de una noticia que me dio tristeza, y es que el primer exchange de criptomonedas que aprendí a usar va a cerrar el año que viene, y este exchange se llama Localbitcoins, pudiendo decir que fue uno de los primeros porque tiene 10 años de funcionamiento, y esto hacia que tuviera una buena experiencia en esta area, pero lamentablemente tuvo varias malas decisiones que hicieron que le ocurriera lo mismo que paso con Blockbuster.

Para los que no lo sepan, Localbitcoins es un exchange que usa unicamente Bitcoin como cripto, y funciona como un exchnage P2P, por lo que requiere que existan compradores y vendedores de Bitcoin para que pueda tener sus beneficios como un intermediario en la operacion, lo que es un tipo de negocio muy simple pero dificil de comenzar si no tienes ambas partes necesarias en un comercio.

Mi primera experiencia con localbitcoins fue en 2017 debido a que mi suegra @aurodivys estaba trabajando como comerciante en esa plataforma y yo estaba interesado por aprender a usarla porque el tema de las criptomonedas me daba algo de interes, y fue tambien mi primera experiencia con las criptomonedas, que luego le enseñe a mis papas y comence varios negocios.

Hoy en dia debo decir que es gracias a Localbitcoins que estoy donde estoy, porque sin haber tenido esa primera experiencia, no habria comenzado mi negocio de remesas, ni habria aprendido a hacer arbitraje, mucho menos habria ahorrado mis beneficios para invertir en lo que hoy son mis activos, y eso incluye una parte de mi HP (porque hice compras de HIVE en mis inicios en la plataforma).

Da lastima saber lo que hizo que Localbitcoins no pudiera seguir adelante, y es que a pesar de muy excelente reputacion en la plataforma, tuve que dejar de usarla porque no se adaptaron a las Stablecoins que se hicieron cada vez mas importantes en Venezuela, ya que solo manejan Bitcoin en su plataforma, pero la volatilidad como dice @taskmaster4450 aqui, hace que manejar Bitcoin sea algo inviable para los comercios.

Binance es una de las plataforma que estuvo tomando cada vez mas protagonismo en la escena venezolana porque permitia usar las stablecoins para comerciar y hacer intercambios P2P, por lo que podemos considerar que Binance es Netflix y Localbitcoins es Blockbuster, con el mismo resultado lamentable, y que yo entiendo de primera mano porque de la misma forma que enseñaba a usar Localbitcoins en 2018, tambien enseñe a usar Binance en 2020, 2021 y 2022.

Podemos decir que la falta de innovacion hizo que otra empresa muriera, aun cuando pudimos decir que se encontraba dentro del top de empresas en Venezuela, y que pudo tener muchas experiencias con sus miles de usuarios que hacian comercios de miles de $ mensuales (incluyendome), pero que por malas decisiones, permitió que otra empresa le quitara ese lugar.

Personalmente, tengo mucho que agradecer a Localbitcoins por haberme dado la oportunidad de conocer a muchas personas en latinoamerica que me demostraron que las criptomonedas se han convertido en algo a nivel continental, y que esta es una tecnologia que podemos usar de forma internacional sin problemas, haciendo nuestra vida mucho mas facil.

Tambien tengo que agradecerle el apoyo que tuve para entender las diferentes estafas, porque estuve apoyado por el equipo de disputas en varias ocasiones, y esto me hizo estar mas atento a las maneras creativas que tienen los estafadores de atrapar a sus victimas, y mas aun de forma virtual.

Tengo muchas experiencias alegres con Localbitcoins, desde la forma en que hacia los calculos de las tasas de intercambio cuando estaba en clases en la universidad, cuando hacia intercambios desde la caminadora del Gym o levantandome entre sesiones de pesas, tambien viajé a Estados Unidos y Cancun en 2021, usando la plataforma de intercambio durante el viaje porque Binance no estaba permitido en Estados Unidos, y como fue la plataforma que me apoyó economicamente durante los primeros meses de la pandemia en 2020.

Voy a recordar a Localbitcoins con mucho cariño, de la misma forma que puedo recordar una amistad que por razones de la vida, ya no sigue existiendo.
