With the fall of FTX, there has been a lot of talk about cryptos and what can happen in the future, having different points of view but in the end they all have something in common, and that is that it was a hard blow for cryptos and we have to hope that it will not happen again, at least at some early stage, but this depends 100% on the good decisions that the different market players have taken and how much risk they were willing to take when everything was fine a few months ago.

Something that I have been told by some people close to me but who have no experience investing in cryptos and in some cases with no experience in investments, is that cryptos are a scam and I have had to answer with the following example, but adjusted to the reality of each country, since when we look in depth, all countries have some experience with a major scam.

Let's take the case of Argentina with the bank blockade in the early 2000s, let's also take into account a real estate scam that occurred in Bogota a few years ago, let's see what happened in Hertz, Nikola and even the case of Zoom (a bankrupt company that was still listed at the time of Zoom's boom as a communications platform in the pandemic and that had this same ticker).

Personally I see investing in China as a time bomb, as I know what it means to live in a country where none of the human rights are respected, because this also happens with investors and we can see what happened with Jack Ma, so whoever decides to invest in a country like this, must be prepared that at some point may occur a blockade of their funds and not be able to do absolutely nothing.

Let's look at the case of Kathy Wood's ETFs, which although they are not a scam, they were full of FOMO in the past and today do not represent the respect they had in the past, or the case of the Madoff scam and how it could make people with high purchasing power fall into something that today seems very obvious.

As we can see, I can continue talking about different scams happened in the past and how many can be repeated in the present (since 5 years ago), so we can use a simple logic and think that these scams are going to keep happening in the future, and as we can see, they can happen in any industry and at any time, but even so, we do not say that all industries are a scam, which could also be logical if we think that because of what happened with FTX, cryptos are a scam.

There will always be a person who wants to be above the system, above other people and has no moral values to get what he wants, being able to get it in politics or in a private environment, also next to our home or even being part of our family, which makes us have to lower our guard when verifying what we are investing in or what we are buying.

The self-respecting investor has had losses at some point in his life, and although he has not fallen into some recent unpleasant situation, he has fallen into some unpleasant situation in the past and has learned from what happened, so that he does not fall into the same situation again, but waits for the next creative way in which someone is going to swindle or lie to other people.

The idea of using risk management that we can't go over is that we can't control a lot of what happens to us, but we can control what we do and I can assure you that there are many people today who wish they had had good risk management when they chose FTX as a crypto exchange or as a savings account, which we can use to understand the importance of diversifying our funds but also that we have to be a little bit wary of where we have our money.

Cold wallets can be a good option to avoid these situations, but they are still a risky place depending on the person using it, because not all of us are experts using cold wallets and many of these wallets are not easy to understand either, which makes that we have to handle these wallets with care of ourselves.

Every country has a way of saying this, and if they have come up with a creative way to say it, it is because there is something true, and that is that we should never let our guard down, because when we get overconfident is when we can lose the most, regardless of the industry we invest in, the country we are in or the time we live in.

Con la caida de FTX, se ha hablado mucho sobre las criptos y lo que puede ocurrir en el futuro, teniendo diferentes puntos de vista pero que al final todos tienen algo en comun, y es que fue un golpe duro para las criptos y tenemos que esperar que no vuelva a ocurrir, al menos en algun momento temprano, pero esto depende al 100% en las buenas decisiones que han tomado los diferentes actores del mercado y cuánto riesgo estuvieron dispuestos a asumir cuando todo estaba bien hace pocos meses.

Algo que me han dicho algunas personas cercanas pero que no tienen experiencia invirtiendo en criptos y en algunos casos sin experiencia en inversiones, es que las criptos son una estafa y he tenido que responder con el siguiente ejemplo, pero ajustado a la realidad de cada pais, ya que cuando vemos en profundidad, todos los paises tienen alguna experiencia con una estafa importante.

Tomemos el caso de Argentina con el bloqueo bancario a los inicios de la decada de los 2000, tambien tomemos en cuenta una estafa en bienes raíces ocurrida en bogotá hace pocos años, veamos lo que ocurrio en Hertz, Nikola e incluso el caso de Zoom (una empresa quebrada que aún seguía en bolsa al momento del auge de Zoom como plataforma de comunicaciones en la pandemia y que tenía este mismo ticker).

Personalmente veo invertir en China como una bomba de tiempo, ya que se lo que significa vivir en un pais donde no se respetan ninguno de los derechos humanos, porque esto también ocurre con los inversores y podemos ver lo ocurrido con Jack Ma, por lo que quien decida invertir en un pais como este, debe estar dispuesto a que en algun momento pueda ocurrir un bloqueo de sus fondos y no poder hacer absolutamente nada.

Veamos el caso de los ETF de Kathy Wood, que aunque no son una estafa, si estuvieron llenos de FOMO en el pasado y en la actualidad no representan el respeto que en el pasado tenian, o el caso de la estafa de Madoff y como pudo hacer que personas con un alto poder adquisitivo cayeran en algo que hoy en dia parece muy evidente.

Como podemos ver, puedo continuar hablando sobre diferentes estafas ocurridas en el pasado y como muchas se pueden ir repitiendo en el presente (desde hace 5 años), por lo que podemos usar una logica simple y pensar que estas estafas van a seguir ocurriendo en el futuro, y como podemos ver, pueden ocurrir en cualquier industria y en cualquier momento, pero aun así, no decimos que todas las industrias son una estafa, lo cual tambien podria ser logico si pensamos que debido a lo ocurrido con FTX, las criptos son una estafa.

Siempre va a existir una persona que quiera estar por encima del sistema, por encima de las demás personas y no tenga valores morales para poder conseguir lo que quiere, pudiendo conseguirlo en la politica o en un ambiente privado, tambien al lado de nuestro hogar o incluso siendo parte de nuestra familia, lo que hace tengamos que bajar la guardia al momento de verificar aquello en lo que estamos invirtiendo o que estemos comprando.

El inversor que se hace respetar ha tenido perdidas en algun momento en su vida, y aunque no ha caido en alguna situación desagradable reciente, si ha caido en alguna situación desagradable en el pasado y ha aprendido de lo que ocurrio, para no volver a caer de la misma manera, sino que espera cuál va a ser la proxima manera creativa en que alguien va a estafar o mentir a las demás personas.

La idea de usar una gestion de riesgo sobre la cual no podemos pasar, es que no podemos controlar mucho de lo que nos ocurre, pero si lo que nosotros hacemos y puedo asegurar que hoy en día existen muchas personas que desearian haber tenido una buena gestion de riesgo al momento de elegir a FTX como una casa de cambio para criptos o como cuenta de ahorro, lo que podemos usar para entender la importancia de la diversificacion de nuestros fondos pero también de que tenemos que desconfiar un poco de donde tenemos nuestro dinero.

Las wallets frias pueden ser una buena opcion para evitar estas situaciones, pero no dejan de ser un lugar riesgoso dependiendo de la persona que lo use, porque no todos somos expertos usando wallets frias y muchas de estas wallets tampoco son fáciles de entender, lo que hace que tengamos que manejar estas wallets con cuidado de nosotros mismos.

Cada pais tiene una manera de decir esto, y si se ha conseguido una manera creativa para decirlo, es porque hay algo de cierto, y es que nunca debemos bajar la guardia, porque cuando nos confiamos es cuando podemos perder más, independientemente de la industria en la invirtamos, el pais donde estemos o el momento en el que vivamos.
