My children and I have a tradition of always ending a holiday with a dinner together.

We started this after the passing of my partner. And, of course, also for the children, by losing a parent. So to celebrate life, we visit a restaurant after every holiday.

Today it was my pick.

A difficult task.

Because there is a wide variety of restaurants ranging from Asian cuisine to Turkish, French, Caribbean cuisine, and so on.

But this sushi restaurant is at the top of my list. So it became 'Izumi.' My eldest son's girlfriend came along for the first time, so I booked a table for four. So after a long time, our family was four again. It gave me a lump in my throat for a brief moment. But that fourth place is now well-filled.

What a sweet girl.

So glad she's part of our family now.

The restaurant.

Here is a short explanation of how the concept of this restaurant works.

You order your food and drinks via a tablet. Everyone can pass on their choice, and then the dishes and drinks are served at your table. You can order something as often as you want. If you like a plate, you call it a second time. Or opt for something completely different. They are all small snacks so you can enjoy as many other dishes as possible. The range is extensive. Nigiri, gunkan, Maki, temaki, salads, wok, grilled & fried dishes, soup, noodles, rice, and desserts. I will let you enjoy what all passed our table. However, it becomes challenging to describe the sublime taste of each dish.

I always start with a Nigiri Sake (Salmon and rice) and Nigiri Maguro (Tuna and rice). (2nd picture)

Both are cold dishes. The food quality here is always excellent; you can tell that by the salmon and tuna. It melts on your tongue. And with a short dip in soy sauce.

Very delicious.

While my kids struggle with the chopsticks and their first dish, my second dish is already in front of me. This time a hot plate. Ebi Garlic, shrimp from the wok with garlic sauce. To die for, so tasty. The garlic sauce has a sweet touch that gives it a distinct taste but goes so well together. (3rd picture)

I will briefly describe all that follows next. Enjoy; it will make your mouth water.

Gyoza (chicken dumplings) A wonton wrapper containing tender chicken. And a slightly more sour soy sauce for dipping. My least favorite dish, as I have quite a sweet tooth. (4th picture)

Tippan Niku (Hotstone beef) I need to figure out what sauce they use for this. Teriyaki, but it's slightly sweeter. And that, in combination with the red and spring onion, is luscious. (5th picture)

Next are some maki. To vary a bit, I often alternate hot and cold dishes with each other. Maybe I'm being declared crazy and going against etiquette now.

But oh well.

Do you have to do in life what makes you happy right?

We once started dinner with dessert. You shouldn't always take life too seriously.

There should always be room for fun and silly things. Those are the moments my kids will remember.

But I digress, back to the Maki.

Starting with a Spicy Tuna Salad Maki ( Salmon, cucumber, avocado, ginger, wasabi, but especially the Nanami Togarash, the red spice on top, makes it very aromatic.) (6th picture)

Second is the Philadelphia Maki (Smoked salmon with cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber. On top of some green tobiko). The tobiko gives a slightly salty taste, combined with all the other flavors, which provides me with a feast. (7th picture)

Last but not least, Izumi Maki (Salmon, tuna, and beef combined with avocado, cucumber and on top of their famous sauce, whose ingredients are unfortunately a secret.) (8th picture)

All three are scrumptious.
