MAKING A NEW CLASSY GOLD BAG FOR A SOON-TO-BE BRIDE.
Beautiful morning my fellow needleworker,
I do hope we had a wonderful weekend cus I sure did. Today I will be sharing with us a bag I made over the weekend. This bag was ordered by a sister in church who is getting married soon and she chooses me to be her Maid of honor(which makes me so happy🙈). Anyways, as a soon to be bride here in Nigeria you’re expected to have new clothes, bags and shoes upon getting married. That’s why, brides get ready by buying and making new clothes, buying new shoes and ofcus buying new bags.
This lady happen to be one of my favorite customers. She has been patronizing me since the beginning of my bag making business and I can’t count the number of bags I’ve made for her. It’s only natural for her to order bags from me for her next big phase in life. She had wanted a gold bag for a while now but I couldn’t deliver because the gold leather was scarce in the market. Thankfully, the last time I went to the market, I was able to get this beautiful gold leather. Upon informing her about the leather, she choose a style and I commence its creation over the weekend.
Below, I will be putting us through the process of me making the bag.
MATERIALS USED
- Fibre
- Synthentic skin leather
- Gum
- Suade material
- Chi board
- Buttom pins
- Leather glue
- Maco
- Chain
- Eyelets
- Bag lock
- Magnets
PROCESS
- The first thing I did like always was to mark the pattern out on the fibre, leather and Suade material which I use as lining and then cut them out.
- After marking the main body of the bag. I reduced the flap by 1inch as seen below. I decided to change the flap a little due to the style of the bag lock I will be using.
- Next, I gummed the parts I cut out with its respective leathers.
- In addition to the original design, I added a small purse to the back of the bag. In the picture below, I sew the purse to the back of the bag.
- After that, I made the eyelet holes to the upper part of the bag.
- Once that was made. I gummed some Maco to the main body of the bag as seen below. I did this to make the bag stronger. This is because the fibre I was using before which was stronger, I couldn’t find it anymore in the market. This one I had to use isn’t as strong so I had to gum some soft maco with it to make it firmer.
- Next, I sew the inner flap to the inner Suade lining, sew the inner pocket to the lining, make the bag lock holes and eyes let holes on it and gummed it with the main body of the bag. After that, I also sew the small handle that will be attached to the chain.
- Once that was set, I fixed the eyelet using and eyelet fixer machine. This is the first time I will be producing a bag with it and I’m so happy cus the eyelet came out so neat.
- Then I fixed the bag lock using a screw driver.
- I also fix the other part of the lock as seen below. After that, I fixed the magnets too to hold the flap very well. I also fixed the bottom pins.
- Finally, I gummed the rest of the lining to the bag. Then I sew the sides to the main body of the bag. You can see my grandma chilling with me as I make the bag in the picture below🥰🥰.
- After sowing the sides to the main body, I see a small 1inch leather together and fixed it inside the chain to make a leather-chain design before fixing it with the small handles.
