As a Nigerian, I'm sure you would have heard the news of the young chef lady Hilda who is trying to break the Guiness world record for the longest time an individual can cook on a stretch. She tagged it a Cookathon. She started may 11th and finished last night after achieving 100hours of cooking nonstop thus breaking the current record of 87hours by the current record holder.

As I was thinking about why she decided to do this because Guiness world records don't pay the people they give the awards to, I realized that the gain she had acquired is bigger than money. You see, before now no one knew who she was. She was just a normal chef with a restaurant in Lagos struggling and competing in the highly competitive city. This Cookathon has generated thousands of traffic to her business. She went so viral that she had been trending on all social medias for the past few days. She had received recognition from the president, vice presentation, governor, and tons of celebrities who came to cheer her up and encouraged her during the cooking marathon.

This is a clean example of Organic marketing. Organic marketing is generating traffic to your business without having to pay for it. This can be done through blog posts, unpaid social media advertisements etc. The strategy Hilda used is simply mindblowing because her business can never remain the same. The reason why Organic marketing is far more better than paid marketing is because it's long term. Most paid advert are short term. When people see the product, they might want it that one time and not again. Most might not even get to buy. That is because they don't have a relationship with the product or the person selling it.

In Organic marketing, you get to have a relationship with the audience. You get to build your audience from the scratch and grow with them. There is this trust that is being generated which gurantee a long term customer base. Now, for you to embark on marketing your products organically, you need to have valuable product that can bring you good profit, also you need to have a good target audience you are after and you need to create a good story to go in line with the product. In short, you need to have a personal relationship with the product in such a way that you can freely carry people along with it. For example, I follow a lady that makes beaded bags. She usually makes video of herself making the bags by creating comedy videos in the background. I personally got attracted to the comedy, then I get to watch her create the bag which makes me be a huge fan of her products. This has generated many traffic to her page.

In summary, it's best to advertise our products organically. This can be done by posting video content about our products on our social media pages, creating a blog dedicated to our products, Optimisation of Search Engines and many more. It's best to try to reach the target audience by ourselves rather than opting for paid advertisements. We should also note that its a process. It takes time to build the audience but at the end of the day, it's worth it.
