I made a half butterfly bubu dress

Hello, welcome to my post on the #needleworkmonday community, i will be sharing with you how i made this beautiful and comfy dress,

it is known as a half butterfly bubu in my country, Nigeria, because the down part of the dress is straight, while upper side is shaped as the wing of a butterfly.
It is a very comfortable dress ,beautiful, also very affordable and can be worn by both young and old ladies, the process of making this dress is very easy, i hope at the end of this post, you should have a general idea of how to make a half butterfly bubu.

Materials needed are
Fabric I used Ankara fabric for mine
Tulle
A decorative lace
Chalk
Taperule
Scissors.

The measurements needed are
Bust
Waist
Hip
Dress length
Accross back and
Sleeve length

To start with,
i measured the length i want the dress, for mine, it's 57 inches, i added extra 2 inches allowance, making it 59 inches, so I cut out the fabric 59 inches twice for front and back,
Then I placed the two piece on fold, placing the front piece on the back, leaving a 1 inch allowance at the side of the back which is going to serve as my zipper allowance.

After which I start to place the vertical and horizontal measurements, making sure to add 1 inch to the vertical measurements which serves as ease allowance, also, I add half of my back(shoulder) mine is 7.5 measurements to the required length measurements, which is 11plus 2 inches seam allowance, so 7.5 +11+2=20.5 , i chalk it at the upper side of the fabric then with a curve, slope down to 2 inches below the hip line, that gives it the wing shape.

From that point, i I take I hip measurements, making sure to add 2 inches allowance, one for ease while the other as seam allowance which I'm go in to stitch together from the inside of the dress

From the chest point to the hip region will have a upper stitch that is on the right side of the dress so we will still have our wing outside,
For the neck region, i used the lace as facing for the front and the Ankara as facing for back

front and back piece

Then I cut a 6 inches long strip of the Ankara fabric and place it on fold,

i pleated the strip round the sleeve, i also cut a 6 inches long strip of the tulle but it won't be on fold, i gathered the tulle and stitched it round the sleeve also, below the pleated strip.

This is the final beautiful outcome.

Thanks for reading through the post to the end, i hope you found this illustration helpful, if you found any part of it confusing , you can ask in the comment section, I'll reply as soon as i see it

Thanks again.
