Have you ever had that day you needed to make something for yourself, but you just wanted something simple, why? The short time I had to the event I was supposed to attend, a friend's baby christening, I've been making dresses for other people lately since it's the holiday/festive season that I didn't have the time to make mine, and there was no way in the world I'm going to miss the christening ceremony of my childhood friend's baby, I had the fabric I wanted to work with, less time, since it was already 6pm, I had just finished making a dress for a little girl in my neighbourhood which she fitted and was feeling very happy and beautiful in her dress, but there I was feeling tired and almost giving up on making my own dress, I don't know why I mostly get this tired feeling when it comes to making my own dress, most times i'm tempted to just rest the period I'm suppose to make my dress and is it also a wonder that making my own dress mostly take place at evening/ night time, hope i'm not theeee only one this happens to, one of my new year resolutions is to always create time to make my own dress feeling relaxed and not only when it is compulsory for me to attend an event, because that is what I had to deal with the previous year.

I summoned the courage with my tired self brought my fabrics out and started working on my dress, I know I wanted a simple dress, but as the designer of my dress, I couldn't settle for less, say tuned as I take you through my extra fantasy turned to reality.

Making Process

One of the easiest dresses to make is a kimono outfit since the sleeves are always cut together with the main bodice, be it a dress or a top, and that's what I opted for.

I drafted the front dress pattern, with a V-neckline which I turned with a strip covered with ledtover lace from a previous project

Here is the back pattern, in which I turned the neckline using a facing,

I joined them by the shoulders and the side and was done in less than an hour, but it felt too easy and simple, me that wanted to rest initially

I guess the spirit of creativity kicked in and instead of leaving my dress as a plain shift dress, I wanted **EXTRA! , I looked around my fabric storage for what I could do to spice up the look,
to give me extra, lol, don't blame me, it's how I am sometimes, a little bit of extra doesn't hurt anyone right?

Gladly I found 5 yards of black tulle bet I had bought some months back but left unused since I was not inspired to make a dress with it, but all of that changed after making my shift dress, an inspiration awoken in me, and I decided to elongate my shift dress using the tulle,

I cut out steps in different length and gathered them like a Caribbean skirt and here is the final look after attaching it to my shift dress, it took my simple dress to a more sophisticated looking one,

It was already day break, I took an hour to sleep off the stress of staying awake so I could stay sane for the occasion of the christening, my coffee also helped me stay awake afterwards, things we do for the love of fashion🥰
