My original design, made for a special someone

Hello Hive!

Glad to make it to another exciting needlework Monday. I hope you are all doing great wherever you are, and your needlework projects are progressing as expected. Talking about progress, I finally completed an original design I had wished to make since last year for a committed client of mine. A lot of us entrepreneurs only look forward to making profits, which is good, but do you know that at least once in a while, it's good to show appreciation to our customers as well, and this is one tradition I love to do, either on their birthdays or as an end-of-the-year bonus.

Trust me, if you haven't been giving out to your customers as well, you are missing out on a big side of their return, because from experience, I realized that my good work of giving out in my own little way even brings back greater return, from more orders and referrals.

This is one client I had promised since last year, but since she was out of the country, I had to hold on until she was back, and the dress I made for her is my own original design, as I didn't want to copy any style and just wanted to do something unique out of my head.

Materials Used

  • Ankara fabric

  • Chantilly lace

  • Buttons

Cutting And Sewing Process

  • I started by drafting the back of the dress pattern on fold, and the length stops just after the knee length

  • Using the back pattern, I traced it to but out the front pattern, then left an extra 2.5 inches at the front, for the button and button hole fold.

  • Next, I joined the front and back by the shoulder area

  • Then also cut out the short sleeve pattern, which I sewed around both armhole areas

  • Then I cut out the lace to extend the length of the dress, after joining the sides, I also sewed belts on both sides

  • To further extend the length of the dress to the floor length, gathered the lace fabric and joined the ruffles to the upper length.

  • Finally, I made button holes and sewed in the buttons. And that completes the making process. She was so happy to receive her new dress gift. I'm glad I could put a smile on someone's face with my needlework.
