Plus size ladies can be fashionable too

Hello wonderful hivers and my ever-creative needleworkers, I welcome you all to my blog and hope you are all having a great day going.

During the week, I was visited by a very close friend of mine who came along with another friend of hers, who looked sad from her facial features, we got introduced by our mutual friend, her name is Gift, and in the process, I got to learn that the reason for her sad look was because she was disappointed by a fashion designer who felt she was too chubby to sew the dress of her desire, this beautiful plus size lady wanted a unique style as you can see from the giphy above, because she had an art show to attend with theme and dress code as "Be Unique" and that was exactly what she wanted. The amazing thing about her was that she had her desired style idea, you could see her mood liven while she was trying to describe what I should make for her, with keen interest, I listened and was able to interpret the style for her.

The cutting and sewing Process

  • I started by drafting the front and back pattern using a pattern paper

  • I transferred the pattern to the ankara fabric and skin net, drafted as a princess bustier with a plunged neckline for the front

  • And a normal back bodice, also using the skin net as the back yoke.

  • Boning to clinch the waist and bust cup was also used in the making of this dress.

  • The base of the gown was made using a short straight skirt pattern, then I stitched ruffles of fullest the base, her Idea, then to give it a more daring look, we added a tulle made into a ball, at the front of the dress.

My mannequin tried to model the dress for me as Gift is still very shy for the camera.I had to adjust it at the back to fit a little.

Who says being plus size means you can't be fashionable and only restricted to shift dresses, that is a lie as we proved them wrong. She was happy with her dress, most importantly for bringing her fantasies to reality. Guess what, she will be coming with more unique style inspiration, I find her interesting and hope to see more of her.

Please note, all images and giphy used in this post are all mine.

Thank you for visiting my blog❤❤

I often shy away from sewing plus size outfits. They are a bit complex especially those with large tummy and waist measurements. I mean no offence here.
Only professionals sew plus size perfectly well...
Well done dear @glorydee and thanks for sharing this beauty I hope that she wears and enjoys this with confidence.

You are right dear, that Is why their dart is more and also the waist placement might differs bit, but it is still the same process.

Thanks @monica-ene she loves it absolutely, it's actually her original design, I just brought it to live.
