When I think about the number of years of dedication and sacrifice people put into becoming a fashion designer because trust me, it isn't easy learning the art of contouring a garment to fit a complicated human shape, then all of that suddenly gets replaced by a robot is truly terrifying to some, thinking about it again, Fashion is a field that would always require that human feeling, unique sense of style and touch of creativity, no matter how intelligent robots are, they can't take that place of human in the fashion designing industry, they can only make it easier for us in terms of production, and become an assistance to our original creation.
Which no doubt A.I has proven to be very helpful, but kicking us out totally is impossible, like we've seen them do to some jobs in recent years.

The Potential Impact of AI on Fashion Design

As I stated, AI can help augment our original creative source, and some of the ways AI has already impacted the Fashion industry include the following, which I've even benefitted from in making my job easier.

• Generative AI for design concepts

There are some times I have a design in my head, and would want to have an idea of how it looks like before getting to work, before, I would have to illustrate it or hire the services of a fashion illustrator to do it for me, but now, all I have to do is write out my prompt/idea and leave the rest to AI within a few seconds, I already have my design created, it's left for me to bring the design to life, also refine it to my taste the more.

• AI patternmaking

There are already apps that can bring out the pattern of a dress, after analyzing the body measurements, they generate precise digital patterns, which you print out and just go straight to work, we don't have to spend so much time on drafting anymore, some fashion houses and industries have already started making use of the helpful AI pattern maker.

From the examples you can see that the place of humans cannot be totally eradicated, but what if it eventually happens?

Coping Strategies if AI Eventually Takes My Fashion Design Job

One thing I've learned in my fashion job is that fashion trends never see their end, something new must always come up, I guess I will have to train and think of better ways to create something captivating in the Fashion world, something I'm sure AI can't take away from me no matter what.

Also, AI still require human assistance to function, I guess I will just embrace this new technology and get trained on how to use it to augment my natural skills.

And finally, have you ever wondered why handmade designs are usually more expensive than machine-made ones, there are people who will still value that human touch in their possession, so I will just have to focus on thes set of people to survive if the fashion world gets taken over, take advantage of the now scarce human touch in fashion designing to make my production unique.

As a fashion designer, it is natural for me to feel threatened by new AI capabilities that could potentially make parts of your job obsolete. But instead of giving up in fear, I would rather see it as an opportunity to evolve.
