My uncle and aunt / おじちゃんとおばちゃん

I plan to return to my parents' home at the end of this year.

At that time I will also visit my aunt and uncle. They are my mother's sister and her husband, and they have been very good to me since I was a child. They also loved my sons very much and allowed us to play "candy fishing" when we visited my aunt's house this summer. The game was to catch candy using a fishing rod with a string tied to the end of a pole for crops. A magnet was attached to the end of the string and a clip to the candy. Of course, my sons were delighted.

When I was in high school, I often visited my aunt's house because I was so frustrated at home. Her house was a 15-minute bike ride from mine. Then, as I ate the sweets my auntie served me, I would complain to her about my family. For example, my mother being annoying, my father losing his temper easily, my grandfather and grandmother being old-fashioned in their thinking, my brother making me angry, and so on... Looking back now, I think I was a very annoying niece. I don't know how my aunt felt inside, but she used to say this,

"Your family is so funny… Oh, yeah! You should write essay and publish a book in the future. You have so many interesting stories."

At the time, I thought "No, it's not funny at all...!" and I was even more angry. But sure, as sometimes I write about my family memories on my blog like this, maybe my aunt was right.

Behind my uncle and aunt's house is a mountain, with bamboo thickets and tea fields. I look forward to taking my children there, as it is a scenery not found in Tokyo.

今年の年末は実家に帰省する予定です。

帰ったら、おじちゃんとおばちゃんに会いに行こうと思っています。母の姉夫婦にあたる二人ですが、私も子どもの頃からめちゃくちゃお世話になっていました。私の息子たちも何だかんだ可愛がってもらっていて、今年の夏に帰った時にはおばちゃんの家で「お菓子釣り」をさせてもらいました。支柱の先にタコ糸を結び付けた釣り竿で、お菓子を釣るという遊びです。釣り糸の先には磁石、お菓子にはクリップがつけられていて、磁石を近づけると釣れるしくみでした。もちろん、息子たちは大喜び。

高校生の頃、家にいてもイライラして仕方がなかった私は、よくおばちゃんの家に避難していました。自転車を15分ほど走らせれば行ける距離だったので。そしておばちゃんが出してくれたお菓子を頬張りつつ、母がうるさい、父がすぐキレる、おじいちゃんもおばあちゃんも考えが古い、弟にも腹が立つ・・・などなど、そこで家族の愚痴をグダグダとおばちゃんに聞いてもらっていたんですよね・・・今思えば、相当迷惑な姪だったと思います😅おばちゃんはプリプリしている私を適当にあしらいつつ、

「あなたの家族は面白いねえ～・・・そうだ！将来エッセイを書いて、本を出すといいよ。こんなに面白いネタがたくさんあるんだから」

と言いました。その時は「いや、全然面白くないから！」とさらに腹が立ったものですが、確かに本は出そうにないけれど時々ブログに家族の思い出話を書いてるし、半分くらいおばちゃんの言うとおりになったのかな・・・？なんて思う今日この頃です。

おじちゃんとおばちゃんの家の裏は山で、竹藪や茶畑があります。東京にはない風景なので、子供たちを連れて行くのも楽しみです。
