Osuofia in London- My Favourite Nigerian Movie.

avatar

If you grew up in my country Nigeria in the early 20's, you would agree with that it was the best time of our lives. The Nigerian movie industry provided us with classic Nollywood movies.

Despite the limited power supply, lack of internet services to stream and download movies and limited TV cable services during that period, we had CD plates to run to, my home was always busy because we had our neighbours around watching Nigerian movies

"Osuofia in London" is my favorite Nigerian film.
We'd go to school debating and reminiscing about memorable and hilarious sequences from the famous film.
This is the film that forever changed my opinion on "Nkem Owoh," who played as "Osuofia."

After seeing Osuofia in London, I became so attached to Nkem owoh that
I would put everything on hold to see any movie with him in it.
His facial expressions were too clean and humorous to be anything but comedy.
"Osuofia in London" is one of the best Nollywood films of all time. It was expertly directed, and the main character, Nkem Owoh, played his part to perfection.

The film began with depicting Osuofia's and his family's lives. We had a slow hunter named Osuofia, who was married and had five daughters. In an African context, the spouse is supposed to hunt for animals so meals can be prepared, however on this occasion, the hunter Osuofia had been hunting for a week with little success.

He became enraged and blamed his bad luck on his daughters, claiming that he wasn't sure if they were all his children. Returning home to meet his wife, the great Osuofia Nwokorie meets his wife, who requests an animal so she can prepare food, but Osuofia has none, blaming it on juju by the Animals.

His wife accuses him of being a lazy hunter who wanted food but didn't want to provide protein for the feast. Instead, Osuofia suggests that she use her imagination to find mushrooms to cook with.

Osuofia was also renowned for refusing to pay Community taxes, which were required to keep the community running. When asked to pay the funeral fee, he responded by asking whether "he was responsible for the deaths in the village."

The taskforce attempted to seize his property in his compound, resulting in a fight between his family and the taskforce. Osuofia grabbed his gun and to fire at the Taskforce, who managed to flee the compound.

Osuofia was known in the community as a slacker hunter who was known for causing havoc in the community by refusing to pay dues. His daughters were sent house because they refused to pay school fees, and he urged them to hope that his hunting would be successful, or else they would marry.

You know how someone's destiny or fate can change in a matter of minutes? That was the case with Osuofia.
It appears that Osuofia had a brother who lived in the United Kingdom. His late father sent him there to study, but he never returned.

The principal of the community school and a representative from Lagos came to visit Osuofia to deliver an information, but when Osuofia saw the principal, he assumed he was here to remind him about the unpaid school fees.

He said right away, "I know I haven't paid the fees; you don't have to come and remind me." The principal said that he was visiting for another reason: Osuofia's brother, Donatus, had died in London, and Osuofia was the heir to his estates according to his testament.

When Osuofia learned that his brother Donatus had died, he felt no regret or pain; instead, he remembered how the brother had abandoned the family and that his brother was already dead to him. "If his brother owed any cent before he died, he would not pay," he claimed.

The agent promptly informed him that his brother Donatus had appointed him as the heir to his fortune. Osuofia dismissed it as a prank, only to have the representative show him the will and a plane ticket to London to claim the assets.

Osuofia immediately collapsed, unable to believe his eyes. The principal immediately called his wife and children to find out what had happened. After pouring him water, they were able to stir him awake, and as soon as he did, he began screaming and shouting that his brother had died. He became enraged and told his children that their uncle had died as well. Meanwhile, he warned the principal against discussing the will and flight to London

Osuofia Ndigbo Nwokorie, the once lazy hunter and community annoyance, had transformed into the community's most valuable asset. He was the first member of the village to travel to London.

The news spread quickly throughout the neighborhood, and the community threw a party to bid him farewell to London, promising that when he returned, he would finish houses and enhance enterprises. He packed food and practically all of his belongings into a truck and drove to the airport in a truck . He was also dressed like an African king.

Osuofia arrived in London and was met by a limousine at the airport. He felt like a king, and the treatment he received from Europeans drove him insane.

When the driver stepped out to get fuel for the limousine, Osuofia noticed a black man who looked familiar. So he concluded that this was "Ndubisi." He ran from the limousine to the bus, which had already left, and went to introduce himself to the man as his kinsman. He was chased away by the man.

Osuofia had been missing for less than 24 hours in London. He walked throughout the city, passing by the famous London Bridge and the London Eye. He went to a McDonald's to buy bread and paid with naira notes, asking the shopkeeper to keep the change.

He was apprehended by the cops after stealing a pigeon from a park. While arguing with the police officers in the police station over the pigeon, he hauled out his charm and used it on the male officer.

Then a call came in, when Osuofia was about to be handcuffed. They had identified his brother's residence.

Jeeves, the housekeeper, greeted him and introduced him to the alleged widow of his late Brother Donatus called Samantha.
Osuofia had no idea that his brother's lawyer, Okafor, was working with Samantha to make him to sign paperwork that would strip him of his money.

Samantha was forced to use Romance as a tool on Osuofia, who foolishly signed the papers. It was going to plan until Okafor wanted a new deal that would sideline Samantha. She quickly stole the papers and ran back home to pick Osuofia, telling him about the scam by Okafor and that she would follow him to Nigeria and get married to him

They left for Nigeria with the wealth in the hands of Osuofia. They were welcomed in the community with various cultural groups performing to welcome the first man to visit and return back home with a foreigner as a wife
Osuofia told them about his tales in London, adding things that did not even happen when he traveled but no one cared 😂😂😂

The final battle was for Samantha to look for a way to steal the money from Osuofia. It was mission impossible as Osuofia was aware of her plans. Samantha was forced to learn about the culture of Africa, she had to go to farm, cook food for Osuofia. She was a full time wife.

After getting frustrated, she moved for a plot to poison Osuofia,so she could steal the will and head back but this was abortive as Osuofia's first wife and kids caught her and told Osuofia on his way back.
