Surviving The Apocalypse

The measure of value of a skill depends on the era in question. The skills which had the most importance in the past century do not all have the same relevance now. Even the skills that did not loose relevance had to undergo serious modification for continuity.

But what if there was a major destruction of the world as we know it? Like an apocalypse.

The relevant skill sets for survival would take a dynamic turn.

But human needs would remain.
That is , food, clothing and shelter. I think that's about it though.

Hunting

The search for food, any and every food would be intensified. Hunt or die!

The predatory skills of man would play a pivotal role in survival.
He must also know how to Cook, or at least make the food edible.

Fighting

When there is breakdown of law and order, chaos ensues.
When violence becomes the language of man, man must embrace physicality for protection of even the food which he has provided for himself or the shelter he calls his own.
Failure to do this, what is his would be taken by the stronger man and even his life may not be spared.

Building

Man must take cover from the treacherous elements of nature, for nature is not always kind.

A shelter must be sought or made and for this the post-apocalyptic man must embrace creativity and make out something for himself, either from scratch or from an existing structure.

Without any of these skills, one would definitely suffer and may not survive in a world where there is no civilization.

Regardless of his deficiency in any of them, he may get around if he has good interpersonal traits. But if he lacks good interpersonal skills, he would be in big problem. This is the time to form alliances and form strong support systems both to foster growth and for security.

A lone wolf cannot survive this era, or any era for that matter.
