[ENG/ESP] A Sunday spent in the garden, celebrating birthdays and enjoying the pleasure of a walk in the middle of the forest. / Un domingo dedicado a la huerta y el jardin, festejar cumpleaños y disfrutar del placer de un paseo en medio del bosque.

There are different ways to spend a Sunday.

Some choose the day to rest and sleep late. Others take the opportunity to watch their favourite sports on TV and some even go, now that the limitations of the pandemic allow it, to watch them in person, usually in football stadiums or similar.

In the area where I live, sport is a secondary passion and therefore does not attract too much attention.

In my case I have chosen to spend this day with my family, celebrating birthdays, fixing the fence around the perimeter of the yard and then, in the afternoon, going for a walk in the middle of the forest.

Hay distintos modos de transcurrir un dia domingo.

Algunos elegin el dia para descansar y dormir hasta tarde. Otros aprovechan para mirar en TV los deportes de su agrado e incluso algunos van, ahora que las limitaciones de la pandemia lo permiten, a verlos personalmente, generalmente estadios de fútbol o similares.

En la zona donde vivo el deporte tiene una pasión secundaria y por lo tanto no llama exageradamente la atención.

En mi caso he elegido pasar este dia con mi familia, festejando cumpleaños, arreglando el alambrado de rodea perimetralmente todo el patio y luego, por la tarde, haciendo un paseo en medio del bosque.

Early or mid-spring is the best time to carry out maintenance and conservation work on the garden and vegetable garden in its fullness.

The cold days of winter in the Andean region are not advisable for this type of work and during autumn it is better to let the soil rest.

Weeding, fixing the perimeter fence, sowing new plants and starting to prune the old ones are some of the many ideal jobs to do on a Sunday.

The days are getting longer. Today, for example, the sun rises at 05:29 am, which means that from very early in the morning the light and the freshness of the dawn allow us to start working.

Of course, some people will think, it is a Sunday!

That's why I made the clarification at the beginning: those who choose this day to rest will probably not be too interested in what I have written so far.

A inicios o medidados de primavera es el período inicial para hacer los trabajos de mantención y conservación del jardí y la huerta en su plenitud.

Los fríos días del invierno en la región andina son desaconsejables para efectuar este tipo de trabajos y durante el otoño es mejor dejar que la tierra repose.

Desmalezar, arreglar el alambrado perimetral, sembrar nuevas plantas y comenzar a poder las que ya están grandes son algunos de los tantos trabajos ideales para hacer un dia domingo.

Los dias comienzan a ser más largos. Hoy por ejemplo el sol se alza a la hora 05:29 es decir desde muy temprano la claridad y el fresco del alba nos permite comenzar a trabajar.

Claro, pensarán algunos, es un día domingo!

Por ese motivo hice la aclaración al principio: quienes eligen este dia para descansar probablemente todo lo que he escrito hasta aquí no les interese demasiado.

The view of the valley below is rewarding, it is a real treat for the eyes to see the valley with the city stretching out like a stain and crashing against the mountain backdrop.

In between the breaks we admire the beauty of a unique landscape that never repeats itself. The colours change constantly. The varieties of green are infinite.

Coniferous forests everywhere, but also radal, plantain and other bushes typical of the region crown a natural environment like no other.

It's getting to noon, the heat is on, the work is (almost) finished and it's time to celebrate.

La vista del valle abajo es gratificante, es una verdadera delicia para los ojos ver el valle con la ciudad que se extiende como una mancha y choca contra la omponente montaña.

Entre descanso y descanso nos ponemos a admirar la belleza de un paisaje único que nunca se repite. Los colores cmabian constantemente. Las variedades del verde son infinitas.

Bosques de coníferas por todos lados, pero también radales, llantén y otros arbustos típicos de la región coronan un entorno natural sin igual.

Llega la hora del mediodía, el calor se hace sentir, el trabajo ha sido (casi) terminado y hay que festejar.

Celebrating several birthdays together due to the proximity of the dates creates a unique family atmosphere where the celebrant is not a single person and therefore does not create that somewhat cramped atmosphere around one person. Even the cakes are different, each one reflects the personality of the person who has been honoured with the celebrations, all strictly homemade, none of them are bought.

Festejar varios cumpleaños juntos debido a la proximidad de las fechas crea un ambiente familiar único donde el festejado no es uno solo y por lo tanto no se crea esa atmósfera un poco estrecha alrededor de una persona. Hasta las tortas son distintas, cada una refleja la personalidad de quien se ha hecho acreedor a los festejos, todas hechas rigurosamente en casa, ninguna es comprada.

And after having worked for several hours and having eaten and drunk as usual on any birthday, it is time for a walk to burn off the fatty components and the alcohol consumed, although to tell the truth it was very little.

And to fulfil this task we have a small forest quite close by. It is neither too big to get lost in, nor too small to walk through in a few minutes.

It looks quite natural and unspoilt despite being almost inside the city. There are fairly well-marked trails that allow for easy walking although straying from them means some stumbling, best to stay on the beaten path.

Unlike other trails in the region, this one is always on a flat surface, which makes it much easier to walk in an area where uphill and downhill slopes are the norm.

Y después de haber trabajado varias horas y haber comido y bebido como es usual en cualquier cumpleaños llega la hora obligada de hacer un paseo para quemar los componentes grasos y el alcohol consumidos, aunque a decir la verdad ha sido muy poco.

Y para cumplir con tal cometido tenemos un bosquecito bastante cerca. Ni demasiado grande como para perderse ni demasiado pequeño como para recorrerlo en su totalidad en pocos minutos.

Tiene un aspecto bastante natural y virgen a pesar de estar casi dentro de la ciudad. Hay senderos bastante bien marcados que permiten caminar sin dificultad aunque alejarse de ellos significa algún tropiezo, Mejor mantenerse en la senda transitada.

A diferencia de otros senderos de la región éste se desarrolla siempre sobre una superficie plana lo que facilita mucho el recorrido en una zona en la cuál las pendientes hacia arriba o hacia abajo son la norma.

Some parts of the forest have been cleared to preserve some native species that have been invaded by a variety of conifer from the USA called Oregon pine, initially used for forestation of the foothills, which has literally invaded all the forests.

It is a good species for timber, fast growing, but has proved to be extremely combustible when fires (accidental and/or malicious) spread, which unfortunately are frequent in this area.

Its high resin content causes flames to spread with unusual speed and for this reason it is being controlled through logging.

Algunas partes del bosque han sido taladas para preservar algunas especies autóctonas que han sido invadidas por una variedad de conífera proveniente de los EE. UU. llamada Pino Oregón, usada inicialmente para forestar las faldas de las montañas y que ha invadido literalmente todos los bosques.

Es una buena especie para obtener la madera, de rápido crecimiento, pero se ha revelado extremadamente combustible cuando se propagan los incendios (accidentales y/o dolosos) que desgraciadamente son frecuentes en esta zona.

Su alto contenido de resina hace que las llamas se propaguen a una velocidad inusitada y por ese motivo se lo está controlando a través de la tala.

We return as the evening light begins to fade. It has been a beautiful day.

The main street is deserted and we make our way back to our house.

Regresamos cuando las luces del atardecer coemienzan a declinar. Ha sido un hermoso día.

La calle principal está desierta y nos encaminamos de nuevo hacia nuestra casa.

It has been a hot day tempered by the cool atmosphere of the forest.

Spring is a rainy season.

Tomorrow, Monday, a new working week starts and maybe the garden and the orchard will have to wait a week again for our presence to be active.

Ha sido un día caluroso atenuando por el ambiente fresco del bosque.

La primavera es una estación de lluvias.

Mañana lunes inicia una nueva semana de trabajo y tal vez el jardín y la huerta tengan que esperar de nuevo una semana para que nuestra presencia sea activa.
