Running Through Dubai: Our First Mile in the City of Wonders

I never thought I could join a Dubai run, but my husband secretly registered us for the event. A week before the run, he told me we were going somewhere to get something. So I just went along without asking any questions. When we arrived, I noticed long lines of people, many carrying bright green T-shirts. I asked my husband what it was and he smiled saying, we will join the Dubai Run next week. I was stunned, months had passed since I last exercised! I asked nervously if I could do it and he simply said, we can do it. From that moment, I started light workouts to prepare.

We woke up early on the day of the run. The event will start at 6 a.m. and the place is about a 55-minute drive from our home. When we came everything was so well organized. Parking was marked, which made my husband happy since we didn’t have to waste time searching. Walking through the event area, we felt the lively energy, loud music, cheering crowds, and people from all over, including many kabayans, ready to run. The coordinator presented that the starting point was on Sheikh Zayed Road. Before the run began, the ambiance was exciting, people dancing to the music, groups shouting in excitement and colorful paragliders overhead gave us an adrenaline boost.

When the fun run started, the crowd was so large. My husband and I laughed as we walked more than we ran, it was a fun walk rather than a run! The 5 km route gradually opened up, and we managed to run stretches while enjoying the sights. The event was thoughtfully organized, with water stations and comfort rooms conveniently located along the course. We took some short rests and adored watching groups of friends laughing and walking together. We were immersed in the lively energy around us.

After two hours, we passed over the finish line, feeling fulfilled and proud. Getting back to our car was another adventure. We had to take a train and walk 20 minutes. Our energy and stamina were still high and the entire experience left us elated and proud. Running through Dubai, surrounded by the city’s impressive horizon, happy crowds and lively music was memorable. It was more than a run it was an adventure, a celebration and a memory we’ll adore forever.

Truly, running is fun. My last fun run was almost 5 years ago when a friend invited me during an event on the university campus in Laguna. I used to run a 500km, but now? That is the question!🤣🤣🤣
It is true that when you run the feeling is light and breezy. It's enjoyable running together with friends and colleagues. When you reach the finish line, you can say to yourself I did it and feel proud of yourself.
I can feel the joy in your faces, @gretelarmfeg. It's good that you and your other half always have a good time together unlike some couples nowadays. You are lucky my dear. God bless both of you. 🌷🕊️
Running really is fun, especially when you share it with someone you love. 500 km?! That’s amazing!😱 Now, even just finishing a 5 km run feels like an achievement. We really are grateful for these moments together. God bless you too!🌷
Your husband’s sneaky sign-up turned into something special. I love how the clear parking and water stations kept things easy, and starting on Sheikh Zayed Road must’ve felt pretty unique even if it was more of a fun walk. Two hours together on the route plus a train ride back sounds like the best kind of city date. Would you try a 10k next time, or keep the 5k and soak in the vibe?
Absolutely! Started as a sneaky surprise turned into such a memorable adventure. Everything was so well organized. We’re thinking of going for the 10k, leveling up our little city adventure!😍
Love that upgrade. The 10k will feel great if you keep that easy vibe going. Add a couple of relaxed longer walks or jogs before race day, sip often, and let the crowd carry you. Start easy, smile a lot, and save a tiny push for the last stretch.
Your husband is the sweetest that he secretly signed you up for a fun run. Just enjoying the moment by walking and instead of running together. That run between those skyscrapers must felt amazing and a memorable experience. Create more memories together, Lovely couple.🥰😍
Thank you💕 Yes, he really surprised me with this one. Walking and laughing together between those towering skyscrapers was such a one of a kind experience.🥰
I think there were many people join this walk. I saw there were many people that are enjoying the walk, too. !wine
Absolutely! 😍 The place was packed and it was so nice seeing everyone enjoying the walk/run together.

Coincidence! Our Municipality has recently concluded a half-marathon too. But, Yep! I did not sign up for it 😌 I was caught between, I want too and I'm to lazy to do it!
