Sunday Dips and Coffee Sips

CCC.jpg

The dreary vibe that seems to be hanging in the air has been leaving me rather low energy as of late. Apparently Punxsutawney Phil's mouth was bouncing checks again when we received our annual springtime prediction...

Although April is here with daffodils in hand, my toes still haven't been warm in months... I push on, waiting for the dirt to thaw and the earth to start everything afresh once again.

CCC2.jpg

Some liquid motivation is the best answer to my seasonal blues, especially paired with the knowledge that we only have so many gray days left before life is in bloom.

I've been buying this brand of espresso bean for a few months now. It is budget friendly, yet still lets off an intoxicating aroma when I grind(an) it fresh each morning.

CCC3.jpg

I'm basically addicted to double shot Americanos at this point, but I try to mix it up here and there to keep things feeling vibrant in my routine.

To celebrate the slow pace of this chilly Sunday, I decided to bake a tray of pastries this morning. To go along with this, a plain espresso sounded ideal. Creamy and simple.

As I waited for my cherry turnovers to puff up to perfection, I took some time to give my kitchen windowsill plants some needed much love.

Afterwards, I ground some beans up. As you can see, there is nothing remarkable about these. They are mass shipped, leading to many of the beans being cracked or broken.

CCC4.jpg

I'm no coffee expert, simply an avid coffee appreciator. Therefore, I am honestly unsure if this has any sort of impact on the flavor produced from them.

I can say that I've enjoyed espresso from many local shops though, as well as maybe too many cups from the popular mermaid chain...

These beans have a flavor that stands up well to what I'd find at any shop from my point of view. I'd highly recommend this brand for those hoping to enjoy espresso on a budget like me!

Alright, let's get them brewing! I have my filter set to the largest size, allowing me to add enough ground espresso to pull a generous shot.

CCC5.jpg

All watered and cleaned up, my cat plant smiles with me as I set my cup on the counter. Then the oven begins beeping away- the pastries are done!

It's been a while since I baked anything. In fact, I think the last time was when I last posted to the community.

As I opened the oven and the smell of the fresh pastries mixed with the aroma of my brewed coffee, my heart felt warmer. The red cherries peaked brightly out from under the folds of the dough as I set my turnover on the plate, beckoning me to breathe in the smaller things.

Sometimes we have to make our own version of spring when it is taking too long to show up on its own. For me, this combination is like the sun on my face, a happy place made in the moment.

I hope everyone is staying toasty this Sunday, and your coffee is bringing you as much joy as mine is! It was lovely to share this slice of my day with you all 🤗

Spring is trying to come through, but Winter doesn't seem to want to let go. Still, this is a great idea for a gloomy day, making the best with what you have!

Here's to sunnier days ahead! ☕️

Seriously, winter is being too clingy this year !LOLZ

I’m dying for warmer days so my little guy can run his energy out at the park- we’ve been stuck in the low 40s at best here, so we can’t stay outside nearly as long as needed…

But for sure, we gotta work with what we have, and spring is kinda a mindset, eh?

Hope you had an awesome weekend duder! 🤗☕️

I hear you. We took the kids out for a walk but it was around 50 and super windy, so it was a very quick walk.

We did, thanks! How was your weekend?

It was decent, but strep throat smacked me on Monday 😂 guess I didn't need to be in such a hurry to get out after all huh? LOL

How about for you guys? Hope you're staying safe with this insane wind all over the country 💚

The cherry turnover looks and sounds amazing. I've never heard of it, but I'd love to taste it. Perfect indeed, for what appears to be dreary across the globe.
The coffee and photos are awesome:)))

I’m so glad you liked the photos- it was a ton of fun to give the cat planter a little coffee photo shoot hehe 😍

And OMGOSH! Yes, if you ever see a cherry turnover in a shop, I highly recommend it. Especially when made with more sour cherries, it’s so good!

They are easy to make too if you are a cheater like me and buy premade dough squares 🤣 Now I wish I could pass you one! 💕🤗

Haha! I was gonna ask if you made the dough from scratch 😆.
That cherry must be in the US only, cos I've never heard of it elsewhere. Now, I'm salivating.😋

I thought this dreariness was just a national thing but it seems everyone is experiencing some dorm of it. I love your idea of bringing spring to you, Gee. That pastry looks most delightful.🌹

I got sick after writing this post, so I guess in perspective I wasn't missing out on anything after all, AND perhaps if it was warm, I'd have been more bummed out laying in bed ahahaha

Thanks for the lovely comment, hope you're having a great week so far Tessa 🤗

Coffee is a special medicine for our motivation.
I have not even had the pleasant experience of being able to experiment with coffee beans, I hope it won't take long to live that experience.
Thank you for sharing with all the readers your experience with coffee.

I get this. We're getting up to about 11 celsius through the day now but it's still very cold at night. Trying to keep my little seedlings alive is a pain. Nearly there though, sun shiney days are inbound! The pastry looks incredible btw.

It's risky to start em too soon, and just as risky to start em too late, eh? We have some grow lights, so I keep all my seedlings inside extra long after getting bitten by a random April snow too many times haha! Best 30$ lightbulb ever 🤣

You're so right though, we are in the finishing stretch with this weather for sure- and thank goodness! Sending you virtual pastry 😄☕️

Spring weather is really beautiful
You mentioned about daffodils and someone also said daffodils grow well in spring period
Is that true?

In a lot of the USA, daffodils are the first sign of spring, yet then do not always come with warmer weather. It is not unusual at all where I live to see daffodils sprouting with snow still on the ground. They are a determined flower and sprout no matter what! haha 😄🤗
