In September of 2022, I found myself on a road trip from Yerevan in Armenia to Tbilisi and beyond in Georgia. Hope you stay with me on my journey. There will be a humungous amount of uploads, in various communities, I hope you stay with me and enjoy my trip through the Caucuses.

The memorial on the hillside of Tsitsernakapert, was constructed in 1967, to commemorate the slaughter of over 1.5 million Armenian men, women and children at the hands of the Ottoman Empire,( read turks, read muslim) during WW1. State-sponsored genocide and forced Islamification.

Is not Religion a curse upon civilisation?

The memorial consists of a wall,100 yds in length, whereupon the names of villages and towns from where the victims were deported on death marches or slaughtered are inscribed.

The Stele, which stands at 150ft tall to signify the re-birth of Armenia

The stone slab circle of 12 slabs arranged represent the 12 provinces of Armenia that were soaked up by Turkey. The provinces are still in some quarters referred to as Western Armenia.

The eternal flame burns brightly to the memory of the slaughtered.

So now another long walk, I think my hotel is somewhere in the haze beyond the tower blocks.

Is not Religion a curse upon civilisation?

No. It is not religion that wages war, it is governments. Religion will be twisted into an excuse to justify war to the public if it suits the needs of the political class, but that is all.

Was it religion or politics which sparked the most recent Ukrainian conflict? Was it Catholicism and Protestantism, or politics, which brought about war in Ireland against the English?

The crusades weren't about Christianity and Islam any more than "The Troubles" were caused by Anglicanism and Catholicism. At most it was an excuse to sell political ambitions to the masses. And the modern mess in the middle east is far more a consequence of a century of foreign intervention than it is of Islam. Look at Afghanistan before Soviet intervention, Iran before British intervention, and so forth. I ain't saying it was perfect, but blaming the current situation on "religion" is an incredibly superficial examination of the situation.

I love to read write-ups like these that are full of history.

It's not the religion, but it's the politics happening inside the religion.
