Hive Power - HP Delegation - Delegate Vs Not delegating? Delegating to @leo.voter & @dcityrewards...

Hey All,

image.png

Lets first start this post with answering a major question around - What does it mean to delegate Hive Power aka HP? Before we get into the dynamics of delegating HP, it becomes imperative to first understand most of the things associated to Hive Power[HP] and how do you get HP.

What is Hive Power?

In very simple terms when you power up HIVE also know as stake HIVE then the staked HIVE instantly becomes HIVE POWER and the same can be reflected in your wallet under the section - "Staked Hive Tokens - Hive Power (HP)" The important point to note here is that when you stake or power up HIVE, the HIVE in your wallet gets locked in and converts to HIVE Power, which increases your voting power and resource credits on the blockchain. Here is my total HIVE Power which is around 69K+ HIVE and the minus figure which is -36.9K+ is the delegated HIVE POWER to different accounts.

image.png

What are the Benefits of HIVE POWER::

The HIVE staked gives its users some special abilities on the Hive Blockchain and some of them are outlined as follows::

  • Higher the HP means larger voting power and increased curation rewards
  • More HP gives you more resource credits to do transactions on Hive Blockchain
  • With Hive Power you have stake in Hive governance to support witnesses
  • Hive Power gets you an APR as well; currently set to 2.94% - the percentage value is Subject to HIVE Blockchain variance
  • HP also allows you to support different projects here on the HIVE
  • Claim more free HIVE account with higher HP and resource credits

HP delegation - Delegate Vs Not delegating - My Plan Ahead...

Now that we have some understanding to what HIVE POWER is and benefits associated to it. Lets dive into HP delegation - Delegate Vs Not delegating & My Plan Ahead. Once you have staked HP then the user has an option to delegate the extra HP if they want too. Its not a compulsion at all that you need to delegate HP. There could be different reasons to delegating HP and some of the major ones are::

  • supporting a new project
  • getting curation rewards for delegated HP
  • getting second layer HIVE tokens for delegating HP
  • getting other rewards from project to whom HP is delegated
  • And there is much more to it..endless possibilities

image.png

In my case, I prefer delegating HIVE POWER. Not all the HP that I have gained but at least some percentage of it. My 50% of HP is delegated to two projects which is @financeleo and the #dcity game. Delegating to @leo.voter account gives you rewards in #leo tokens daily. With almost 19K+ HP delegated to @leo.voter account, I am getting close to 30+ $LEO tokens daily as leo bounties rewards. The other major HP delegation of 10K+ HP has been recently done to #dCity game because I felt that the rewards associate to HP delegation here on #dCity was too tempting to resists. Users who delegate to @dcityrewards receive rewards in the form of SIM tokens along with a chance to win in game new NFT card which is named as #Influencer and currently this card is worth 33K $SIM which equals to 12+ $HIVE

Each 200 Hive Power delegated is one ticket for the user
A minimum of 5 tickets total in the pool is needed for the raffle to begin.

For more information on the HP delegation to @dcityrewards can be found Here. Also for every 1K HP delegated, the user will receive a Young Citizen card every day; so that is another benefit here as well. But this offer is eligible for the first month to receive the Young Citizen card every day not sure if this reward continues even after 1 month of delegation. It is very easy to delegate to HP, just visit the wallet page on hive.blog or Peakd and click delegate - enter the account name and HP to delegate and you are done. The same goes true while delegating to @dcityrewards - HP can be sent to the dcityrewards account from any account, there are no additional requirements to be done in order to receive the rewards.

Finally, I guess I would for now just restrict myself to HP delegation and would not want to delegate more than my 50% HP staked. With almost 69K+ HP that I have, I'll not want to increase the delegation more than 34K+ HP.. Yes, I know that currently I have surpassed that limit of 50% but I guess that is ok as long as I further do not delegate and continue to BUILD & HODL my HIVE and HIVE POWER both... cheers...

Have your say on HP Delegation - Delegate Vs Not delegating?

What is your overall on HIVE POWER [HP] delegation? Delegate Vs Not delegating? Which are some of your favorite projects to whom you have delegated HP and how are the rewards looking like? Let me know your views on the comment box below.. cheers

I think it's beneficial to delegate HP when one has much of it. Your strategy of delegating 50% of your HP is a good strategy as you will be able to earn passive rewards from it. For me, I'll think about delegating HP when I have a decent amount of it. Now, my main focus is having more of it.

IMO, that's the right thinking! Build your HP, use it to support other authors, build your "network" and your voice... and then delegate PART of your HP... But, never forget your fellow Hivers that are growing together with you... ;)

Totally agree with you @ph1102 Building the HP should be the first step, then network and help your fellow HIVERs and then delegate if one need to..I am not at all in favor of delegating everything and as I said 50% of delegation is what I am targeting here..cheers

Diversification is always key. I wouldn't advocate delegating more than 50% but can definitely see the perks in the form of completely passive income.

yeah diversification is the key.. definitely one need to have their strategy ad be consistent with it. cheers

Both stakes are equally valuable as they bring value to the blockchain . Nevertheless I prefer to be an active partake in everything that I’m associated in so I will go with the not delegating approach.

sure and that depends upon stake to stake and strategy to strategy. I prefer delegating some to support and generate another passive income stream. cheers

As a person who wants to build my voice on this platform, I don't delegate more than 20% of my HivePower... From my point of view, HIVE is all about people and especially about individuals... It is about decentralization and supporting individuals with direct upvotes is making stronger bonds between people... Delegating is fine, but we should build OUR voice and OUR power on this blockchain as in that way, the whole ecosystem is getting better...

In the end, it is about the people and not just about the money... We proved that by moving from the "legacy chain" to HIVE... 😉

Great summary with pros for both sides, but getting extreme in delegating has its cons, too...

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project which will be highlighted in the next post!

thank you dear @ph1102 ..definitely one should build their on platform to have it heard and if we delegate all our HP then its no point. With you totally on this - build OUR voice and OUR power on this blockchain..that is the main key..cheers

I thought that nothing is happening in the dcity but seems things are getting better.. I have delegated 1k to dcity account today.
Do I need to claim anything or do all the rewards come on auto?
