Crypto talks from the sea: Paying my credit card bill with HBD!

  Not long ago I decided to post about the best route between FIAT and crypto blockchains in and out using the country where I leave, Canada, as a reference. Since then I found another interesting website called Bull Bitcoin , here in Canada. Different from Shake Pay this website works using the Lightning Network and mediates the buy and the sell of Bitcoin without having an internal wallet. So how does it work? You send the money and they directly buy the BTC and send it to your wallet of your choice. The way back is similar, you create payment orders through the lightning network and they send the fiat to the direction that you prefer. So you can send fiat as an e-transfer to your bank account, or even pay bills with that. So I was waiting the a good moment to test it.

  Last week I posted that I bought some silver rounds from TD using my credit card. That was the moment that I was waiting for. I had some HBD around with some recent post rewards and an HBD interest from last month. That HBD amount wouldn't pay the whole bill of 129$ but still would deduct a good portion of it. So let's see how it works Bull Bitcoin with v4v.app from Hive. First I had to register the credit card account that I wanted to pay in Bull Bitcoin, that's the regular procedure to pay a credit card bill in any bank. After registering the credit card account I could create the invoice in BTC for the lightning network. That was a bit tricky since I had to choose the right amount conversion from CAD to BTC at Bull Bitcoin to match the exact amount of HBD which is paired with USD in the v4v.app. I wanted to pay 62.33 HBD, so my first guess was to try to use Google conversion of USD to CAD which 62.33 USD was giving me 82 CAD. That didn't work. When I pasted the invoice into v4v.app it gave me a 64 HBD bill to pay.

  After 3 adjustments I found a good value in CAD that would match a more proximal value of HBD that I wanted to transfer. It was easy to cancel an existing order in Bull Bitcoin, just clicking the X bottom to cancel and trying with another value. In the end, I was going to pay the bill with 78 CAD which was converted by 61.16 HBD. Doing a very fast conversion of 61.16 USD worth 83.09 CAD on Google. So I would have lost 5 CAD (3.68 USD).

  Another wonderful remark is that in less than 1 minute after v4v.app confirmed the transaction through the keychain, Bull Bitcoin received and closed the transaction. What is the final assessment of the transaction? In general, it was good and fast. Now only my credit card bank needs to confirm the payment, but it usually takes 2 days for a bank to confirm a credit card payment here. When I talked to some people in Discord about v4v.app they complained about the fees, since if we convert hive to swap.LTC in the hive engine and sending around the transferring fees into the LTC network are cheaper. I paid 1,400 sats to v4v.app, which it is less than 1$ right now (around 0.92 USD). Aso Bull Bitcoin embedded their fees into the final BTC invoice, 0.00089996 BTC which in the moment that I did the transaction I checked that it was worth a bit more than 80 CAD.

  I had used HBD to convert to Hive, then convert to swap.hive, and then convert to swap.LTC, I would also be at risk of losing some money. After that, I would need to send to Coinbase the LTC and withdraw to my bank account before paying for the credit card. Coinbase has some fees to withdraw crypto, they charge 1 CAD at least for the e-transfer and also a small fee to convert and sell LTC to get CAD. So it is a long way and for me, that value of 5 CAD was well paid, maybe I would save 1 or 2 CAD if I would go through the longest way.

  The layout and whole experience I would say that was 98% satisfactory. Both Bull Bitcoin and V4V.app are simple tools very straightforward to use. My only "waste of time" was when I was trying to match the value that I wanted to transfer from Hive to the value that Bull Bitcoin would receive. It would be cool if the v4vp.app could have a calculator to simulate transactions in HBD and value transferred in BTC so I could use this value of BTC in Bull Bitcoin so I could transfer more straightforwardly.

  Na semana passada, postei que comprei algumas moedas de prata do TD usando meu cartão de crédito. Esse era o momento que eu estava esperando. Eu tinha alguns HBDs por aí com algumas recompensas recentes de postagens e um interesse HBD do mês passado. Essa quantia de HBD não pagaria toda a conta de 129$, mas ainda deduziria uma boa parte dela. Então, vamos ver como funciona o Bull Bitcoin com o v4v.app do Hive. Primeiro, tive que registrar a conta do cartão de crédito que eu queria pagar no Bull Bitcoin, esse é o procedimento regular para pagar a fatura do cartão de crédito em qualquer banco. Depois de registrar a conta do cartão de crédito, pude criar a fatura em BTC para a rede Lightning. Isso foi um pouco complicado, pois tive que escolher a conversão certa de CAD para BTC no Bull Bitcoin para coincidir com o valor exato de HBD, que está pareado com USD no v4v.app. Eu queria pagar 62,33 HBD, então meu primeiro palpite foi tentar usar a conversão do Google de USD para CAD, que 62,33 USD estava me dando 82 CAD. Meu único "desperdício de tempo" foi quando estava tentando igualar o valor que queria transferir do Hive para o valor que o Bull Bitcoin receberia. Seria legal se o v4vp.app pudesse ter uma calculadora para simular transações em HBD e valor transferido em BTC para que eu pudesse usar esse valor de BTC no Bull Bitcoin e transferir de forma mais direta.
