The correlation between learning and intelligence: my high and low.

"Hey that kid is smart, he just learned very fast how to sum multiple numbers and he is still 5 years old". When we think about the world "learning" we associate with the first thing in our brain about a situation like that. In this situation, the kid learned fast because he has a nice set of skills for solving logical math problems. That is where his intelligence is focused. Intelligence is very strongly correlated with learning, but logical-math intelligence isn't the only one that exists. There are multiple other types of intelligence in human beings, such as linguistics, people who easily learn multiple languages; body intelligence, people who learn how to use their body very fast so they are good at sports for example; interpersonal intelligence, people good at learn how to make well in society dealing with others, many politicians have that intelligence; and so many others that I could write a post about it. But I think that is pretty rare to find a human being that has a high set of all intelligence within. I have some of them, but I lack a lot of other types.

I think I was lucky in that three of the intelligences in the list are very correlated, logic-math, naturalistics and linguistics. Learning another language can be done easily when you start to learn new languages and make connections between them, especially if they have the same roots. Portuguese, my native language has the same Latin roots as French and Spanish. So it was a little bit easy to make connections and know the limitations. For example, some Portuguese words I know that have some influence from African words, so I know that these words will be mostly different in French or Spanish. However, verbs are pretty correlated most of the time. And I am always curious about other languages, sometimes in Hive get surprised when I try to send some words in their languages, and I am curious about their languages and culture. The way that I learn is by understanding the roots of the words. I learned English when I was young and that also helped me to include and learn the roots of a different language branch, from Germanic roots with some spices in French. My logical thinking helps me also be curious in general sciences. That way I can learn faster and understand better what is happening around us. The natural events happening in our environment and within us are things that I learn very fast, and problem-solving is something that triggers me a lot. That fits a bit in what people call naturalist intelligence. And of course, this problem-solving is very high when I am using these problem-solving skills in a programming script using my logic-math intelligence.

However, we all know how slow we are for other types of learning. I have always loved to watch soccer, but my body intelligence is slower and it took so much time to at least start to be able to pick me during the soccer games that we played between friends, and even after that I have never been the best player of the team. But at least I learned how to pass and shoot the ball without doing a lot of mess. Also, I took so much time to learn to ride a bicycle. Learning how to make the exact movements needed can take some time for those who lack this intelligence. Some friends start playing soccer and they have a good response of their legs, feet and body to make a nice goal or pass, it looks so easy compared to how easy it is for me to solve a math problem.

My interpersonal intelligence also is very weak. So my social skills got improved only after a lot of practicing, like it was how I learned how to ride a bicycle. Only after a lot of trying and repeating, I could improve a bit my relationships, but still, I am not the best social guy in a group of people. When I saw people like my brother that connects to people easily like he was drinking water, it intrigues me a lot. How easy is that for those with this type of intelligence?

There is a large set of existing intelligences, I left out from my text three other intelligences, but still, I could talk a bit about how I fit into them: musical, spatial and intrapersonal (self-reflection). But I guess I could analyze well my highs and lows. It is good for everyone to recognize their qualities, everyone is strong in at least one of the intelligence in here. And it is very normal to be very bad in others. So maybe that's the key to happiness, understanding what you are good at and knowing that it is normal to be bad in some other qualities. I hope that you guys think on that after reading my text.

Quando pensamos na palavra "aprendizado", associamos à primeira coisa em nossa mente sobre uma situação como essa. Nesta situação, o garoto aprendeu rápido porque ele tem um bom conjunto de habilidades para resolver problemas lógicos de matemática. É aí que está sua inteligência focada. Inteligência está fortemente correlacionada com aprendizado, mas inteligência lógico-matemática não é a única que existe. Existem múltiplos outros tipos de inteligência em seres humanos, como linguística, pessoas que aprendem facilmente várias línguas; inteligência corporal, pessoas que aprendem a usar seu corpo muito rápido, então são boas em esportes, por exemplo; inteligência interpessoal, pessoas boas em aprender como se sair bem na sociedade lidando com outros, muitos políticos têm essa inteligência; e tantos outros que eu poderia escrever um post sobre isso. Mas acho que é bastante raro encontrar um ser humano que tenha um alto conjunto de todas as inteligências. Eu tenho algumas delas, mas falta muitos outros tipos.

Acho que tive sorte porque três das inteligências da lista estão muito correlacionadas: lógico-matemática, naturalística e linguística. Aprender outra língua pode ser feito facilmente quando você começa a aprender novos idiomas e faz conexões entre eles, especialmente se tiverem as mesmas raízes. O português, minha língua nativa, tem as mesmas raízes latinas que o francês e o espanhol. Então foi um pouco fácil fazer conexões e conhecer as limitações. Por exemplo, algumas palavras em português que sei que têm alguma influência de palavras africanas, então sei que essas palavras serão principalmente diferentes em francês ou espanhol. No entanto, os verbos estão bastante correlacionados na maioria das vezes. E estou sempre curioso sobre outros idiomas, às vezes no Hive fico surpreso quando tento enviar algumas palavras em seus idiomas, e estou curioso sobre seus idiomas e cultura. A maneira como aprendo é entendendo as raízes das palavras. Aprendi inglês quando era jovem e isso também me ajudou a incluir e aprender as raízes de um ramo de língua diferente, de raízes germânicas com algumas especiarias em francês. Meu pensamento lógico também me ajuda a ser curioso em ciências gerais. Dessa forma, posso aprender mais rápido e entender melhor o que está acontecendo ao nosso redor. Os eventos naturais que acontecem em nosso ambiente e dentro de nós são coisas que aprendo muito rápido, e a resolução de problemas é algo que me instiga muito. Isso se encaixa um pouco no que as pessoas chamam de inteligência naturalista. E claro, essa resolução de problemas é muito alta quando estou usando essas habilidades de resolução de problemas em um script de programação usando minha inteligência lógico-matemática.

No entanto, todos sabemos o quão lentos somos para outros tipos de aprendizado. Sempre amei assistir futebol, mas minha inteligência corporal é mais lenta e levou muito tempo para pelo menos começar a poder me destacar nos jogos de futebol que jogávamos entre amigos, e mesmo depois disso, nunca fui o melhor jogador do time. Mas pelo menos aprendi a passar e chutar a bola sem fazer muita bagunça. Também levei muito tempo para aprender a andar de bicicleta. Aprender a fazer os movimentos exatos necessários pode levar algum tempo para aqueles que não têm essa inteligência. Alguns amigos começam a jogar futebol e têm uma boa resposta de suas pernas, pés e corpo para fazer um belo gol ou passe, parece tão fácil em comparação com o quão fácil é para mim resolver um problema matemático.

Minha inteligência interpessoal também é muito fraca. Então, minhas habilidades sociais melhoraram apenas depois de muita prática, como foi como aprendi a andar de bicicleta. Somente depois de muitas tentativas e repetições, pude melhorar um pouco meus relacionamentos, mas ainda não sou o melhor cara social em um grupo de pessoas. Quando vejo pessoas como meu irmão que se conectam facilmente com as pessoas como se estivessem bebendo água, isso me intriga muito. Como é fácil para aqueles com esse tipo de inteligência?

Existe um grande conjunto de inteligências existentes, deixei de fora do meu texto outras três inteligências, mas ainda assim, poderia falar um pouco sobre como me encaixo nelas: musical, espacial e intrapessoal (auto-reflexão). Mas acho que poderia analisar bem meus pontos fortes e fracos. É bom para todos reconhecerem suas qualidades, todo mundo é forte em pelo menos uma das inteligências aqui. E é muito normal ser muito ruim em outras. Então talvez essa seja a chave para a felicidade, entender no que você é bom e saber que é normal ser ruim em algumas outras qualidades.
