Nomi | Oni Collection #6

Nomi

Hello once again and welcome to the presentation of a new artwork for the Oni Collection, I have already reached the number 6 edition. And how many will be? you may be wondering, well I really don't know, I will try to do as many as possible, so stay tuned every week 😊.

This week I present you Nomi, her name literally means "beautiful", which can be applied to any other Oni of the Collection, but I have chosen this name for her because at the moment of painting her I got excited and I have put a lot of dedication to the skin, although at the moment of uploading the image it loses a little bit of quality and the pores of the skin are not appreciated.

🔰Process🔰

-Step 1:

As usual, I started sketching the girl's pose, first in a rough way and then I improved it until I added a Manchurian Crane, thus strengthening the style of this collection based on Japanese elements.

-Step 2:

With the pen tool I outlined Nomi, so I had a space to paint without fear of going out of shape and paint where it is not, the same applied to the crane and as for the background I simply took the airbrush and made a couple of shadows to not have the character floating in the nothingness.

-Step 3:

Progressively I was detailing the skin, for this I have used two brushes with pore texture, that's why it has been so nice, as I have tried to blur to blend the colors but that without making it too smooth as it would look plastic, my mission was to achieve something more organic but well done, that is the reason why I have been painting over the outline, although I have tried to make a little more illuminated skin to fit with the white background.

-Step 4:

Going into more details, first I dedicated myself to paint the bird's feathers, since I had to try to fit the brushstrokes with the ones I made for the skin, in order to keep the same mood in the whole piece. Then in a new layer I started the tattoo, always using the same technique that I have done for the previous Onis, a big stain in dark gray and then drawing the tattoo design in a layer mask, always using a grainy brush and porous texture to achieve the gradients in the ink and look closer to the real skin, is something that takes a long time to do, but really is the essence of this collection and I think if I just copy and paste an image of a tattoo will look strange.

-Step 5:

To avoid empty places in the scene, I have lengthened the hair as much as possible, giving Nomi a more imposing look, since long hair is always beautiful. I also had doubts about what to draw in the lower right corner, since the background is nothing more than a very light blur, so I tried to make a little water and in the end I liked how it looked, so I worked a little more on this water but without making it too prominent so that the focus of attention would remain on Nomi and the Crane in her hands.
