Sarius

Artistic blocking on demand

That's right, I haven't been here for days because nothing came out right, it's been a long time since I was attacked by the artistic block and I felt again how frustrating it is, I have a lot of great ideas in my head but day after day I didn't like any sketch.

But I said enough! and I started to work on something I always enjoy doing, my entry for the Splinterlands weekly contest, so I chose a card that I haven't seen fan arts, and if there are any I think they have been very few, it's Sarius, a fierce warrior ex general and last survivor of the Khmer people.

🔰Process🔰

-Step 1:

Of course I started with the sketch, or rather with the sketches, since I was over and over again making the pose, since nothing of what I had been drawing these days I didn't like, but I didn't give up and I was rendering more and more the lines and improving the pose until I got something decent.

-Step 2:

Sarius is actually a gladiator, so the environments she frequents must be basically 3, the training camps, the combat arena and of course the taverns to celebrate her victories, that's why I wanted to represent her there in the middle of the moment of calm and celebration, maybe later I will paint her in the middle of the combat. Having this clear, I worked first the background to lighten the artwork, as I always do the character and then I try to find a good background.

-Step 3:

Since it was inside a tavern, I wanted to play with the lighting of the skin adding several colors and not only work from a light tone to a dark one, although I think that maybe I missed to add a little more contrast and saturation to these colors because they turned out to be very subtle at the end of the illustration.

-Step 4:

Then I started to work on the dark blue hair of the warrior, but of course applying the brightness with the colors that illuminate the room, on one side orange and on the other a very soft blue, I also corrected a little the lower part of the body of Sarius, as his abdomen was very long and I wanted him to have his legs crossed, as he wears a skirt I did not think that a pose with open legs was appropriate for this outfit.

-Step 5:

And of course I couldn't leave aside the armor, I must admit that I'm not very happy with the pose I chose, because the upper part of the armor seems strange to me as it hides the right shoulder and makes me not see the head connected to the body, how do you see it?

Something I completely forgot was to make a beer on the bar, I was so long thinking about how to make the bottles on the shelves that I really forgot to fill the bar with beer glasses.🤡

I will leave you a GIF with the whole process on it, so you can better appreciate the illustration process.

Tell me in the comments that you imagine when you see this illustration.

See you in a future post!

I love the overall pose. It's indicating her confidence as a warrior.
The first glance of her armor made me guess that it is a gladius card. 😊
Great job.
