The Initial Wave | The Faceless Wave (1/3)
A great wave rose from the distance and brought with it something without form. Then, the silhouette of a woman was shown before my eyes, she looked like a goddess; the tide was rising violently, I thought it would cover me; but from one moment to another there were no more waves, neither a woman inside them.
Who was the woman in the wave and where was she?
But then I saw a person floating near the shore, when I saw her face I thought I was freaking out as there was just a big black hole there.
It was the first strange thing I had ever seen in my life, although something told me that this was the beginning, the beginning of something bigger. From that day on our world changed, they came to change everything.

-Step 1:
I have long wanted to draw water, to make a series of illustrations based on that theme, and now the time has come, no face with water, that is the premise of this collection.
-Step 2:
Under the layer of the sketch, I established the base colors of the art, using desaturated tones and not very striking initially but denoting the areas where the light would take center stage.

Going into details, I added more fluidity to the water and much more contrast in the girl's skin, to highlight the colors that shine on it, giving the sensation that the skin is wet. I achieved this with a brush that manages to capture pores in the skin and always accompanied by a layer mask to erase the excess of this effect.

-Step 4:
The small cameras in the background I always imagined them as the heads of the Rovers that are sent to Mars, to give an alien aura to the scene, so I looked for references of these machines, so the main camera is from the Perseverance and the smaller one from the Curiosity.

And of course I couldn't miss the eye and the sunflower, this is the most alien of the scene, so I had to take a close up, so I applied a gaussian blur filter to take the focus off the floating cameras, plus I added a sepia filter to match the color with the other two illustrations of this collection.

Thank you very much, I haven't really mentioned the hours and layers it took me to do it (about 20 layers and almost a week 😪)
True. We often leave out the time and layers we create to do even the smallest of things (like 5+ layers just for eyes or something) that ends up in files sizing in the gigabits.

I work alot with layers but have never used them like that. Any other tips? Assuming dark on the bottom light on the top..
Use layer masks, so you can apply any effect and then paint with a texture brush to achieve the effects you want
Adding process just gives more meaning to the art, my personal perspective. One is why I regret it when I forget to take the process pics. Really loved how you both wrote it out nicely and also presented it in the form of your art illustration. Truly EPIC. Still learning my way in.
I agree, I also love to see the process of art, so I have learned that great artworks start with something rustic and gradually polish them, that inspires me that my art can also reach the level of pro artists.
