Elbow joints: Pain, and management of pain

avatar

A painful elbow joint may prevent someone to do day to day activities such as combing hair, cooking food or getting dressed. Besides injuries, elbow joints, most of the time become painful due to repetitive activities and overuse of arm or forearm muscles such as doing wall plaster or playing tennis for hours after hours. Inflammation of the structures in and around the joints may also cause a painful elbow joint.

If it is not due to a fractured bone or any injuries, the management of a painful elbow consists of the following steps.

Stop overusing the affected muscle and give some rest to the affected joint.

Apply heat to the affected joint and surrounding muscle group.
To provide adequate rest to the joints or muscles, one can use a brace or support such as a forearm brace.

Stretching of the muscles of the arm or forearm may also help.

Someone can use some painkiller ointment or tablets such as paracetamol or other NSAIDs.
