Weekend DIY: Frame for Sister

Every March 28th is my sister’s birthday, the only girl in a family of 5 children. This year’s was different because it’s the last she’d celebrate with us here, for she’s getting married in 7 days. After checking @galenkp ’s post yesterday, I thought of sharing a DIY project I did some time back but thinking about I looked up and saw the photo frame I gave my sister (Who is getting married on the 17th of this month) earlier this year and I knew it’s the perfect fit for this weekend engagement concept.

As I said early, this was going to be the last birthday she will celebrate in our family’s house before heading to her husband’s house and we all decided to celebrate it like we haven’t done in recent times. It was very hard to pick what to buy for her, her collection of bags is far too much and I better not tell the number of shoes she has.

People tend to appreciate gifts that are unique, gifts that shows the giver put in much effort into it, so apart from buying her a cake (together with my brothers), I decided to make a photo frame for her.

A week or two before that she said she liked the avatar I’m using across my social media pages, so I took the cue and using the toon app I converted her picture into a cartoon form. I thought of just doing the random frame but she has a lot of that, so many of her admirers will surely come with huge photo frames that will make mine look irrelevant, so I set out to work.

I got

  • Used Dunlop (Called slippers here)
  • Two boards of different thickness
  • Printed out the picture/cartoon
  • Glue
  • Clamp and screw
  • A shining foil
  • A black paint

Procedure

  • I cut the Dunlop into different small squares and painted it black
  • Cut out a big square from one of the boards, reduced the size of the cut-out
  • Painted the Cut-out and remaining board black
  • Glued the picture/cartoon to the cut-out and covered it with the shining foil
  • Attached the clamp to the board with the screw.

She appreciated the gift and hung it in the living room, though in a few days she will take it away along with every other property of hers to her new home. We all will surely miss her but we all knew this day will come.

If you stay in Nigeria and stay in the Ogun-Lagos axis you are invited to the wedding next week Saturday.

Thanks for Reading!🤗💚🤗
