Here is my participation to the BeerSaturday 297 with as promised in the previous BeerSaturday, I present you one of the beers I bought during my visit to the Dunham Brewery with the No Tahoma, a Farmhouse Ale, an appellation I didn't know. Always cool to learn while tasting a good beer.

Here is the map of Quebec where I can show you precisely the location of the brewery. Today, we're going, again, east of Montreal to the town of Dunham in the Cantons de l'Est on the Wine Route to visit the Dunham Brewery.

📜 Brewery / Brasserie :

This is the same as the last BeerSaturday in terms of information about the Dunham Brewery, founded in 2011 in the spirit of exploring new techniques and flavors especially thanks to its team composed of Sébastien Gagnon, director, Eloi Deit, master brewer and Eric Beaulac, manager. I take advantage of my visit to show you the brewery (photos taken from my last post BeerSaturday 296).

The No Tahoma is a Pale Ale farmhouse, a name that was unknown to me until now. But it was while reading the label, which is usually a source of information, that I noticed that it contained brettanomyces. New word for me but thankfully Wikipedia is here, I was able to satisfy my curiosity. It's a kind of yeast found in poorly cleaned areas (gutters, faucets..) and sometimes on grapes. It doesn't make you want to have it in your glass. But for beer, especially in Belgian ales like Gueuze, a spontaneous fermentation beer, Brett is used to obtain an acid taste without using bacteria or aging them for a long time. Here I'm reassured I can finally taste it 😀. In the glass, we have a nice golden color with a fine effervescence. In the mouth, we taste slightly grapefruit and slightly yeast. Good beer but a little too much for me in its 750 ml format.

Me voilà rassuré je peux enfin gouter 😀 .

Design

For the design, as always with the Dunham brewery, we have a grat label designed by Luke Ramsey, a Canadian artist. Cool design with this farmer (?) enjoying a beer with his dog in his fields. And just for the record for the name No Tahoma, it comes from a failed attempt to make a beer with 100% Tahoma hops but it was a failure according to the brewers. But since they liked the name, they kept it for this beer.

Another interesting beer today @heroldius! I recently went to a burger joint in Thailand that has many of these beers served and it's pretty interesting. I have to say it was one of a few places that I saw many crafted beer with interesting designs and such.

Always good to find restaurant with craft beer, especially if they're local... it encourages brewers to continue to invest in their passion, especially if the beer is good. Everybody wins 😀
Enjoy your day.
