For the CCC's Street Art Contest #184, I propose this superb tribute to the artist Françoise Sullivan, created as part of her 100th birthday celebrations. A superb initiative done by the MU organization to highlight the immense artistic contribution of this artist.
Pour le CCC's Street Art Contest #184, je propose ce superbe hommage à l'artiste Françoise Sullivan réalisé dans le cadre de son 100ème anniversaire. Superbe initiative de l'organisme MU pour souligner l'immense apport artistique de cette artiste.
This work is called Damiers 2023 and is a tribute to Françoise Sullivan / FR : Cette œuvre s'appelle Damiers 2023 et c'est un hommage à Françoise Sullivan.

The mural is on the wall of the Place Dupuis hotel at 801 Sainte-Catherine East in Montreal. You can't miss it given its size 😀.

Julien Sicre & Arnaud Grégoire
Julien Sicre and Arnaud Grégoire are the two artists responsible for this project. But many other artists came to help the duo pay tribute, including MSHL, LE MONSTR, Diane Roe, Jenna Schwartz, Nikki Küntzle... It took a lot of people to paint the 33 squares of color over 108 meters high. The work was closely supervised by Françoise Sullivan.
Julien Sicre et Arnaud Grégoire sont les deux artistes responsables de ce projet. Mais de nombreux autres artistes sont venus aidés le duo pour rendre hommage comme MSHL, LE MONSTR, Diane Roe, Jenna Schwartz, Nikki Küntzle... Il a fallu du monde pour peindre les 33 carrés de couleur sur plus de 108 mètres de hauteur. Sa réalisation a été étroitement surveillé par Françoise Sullivan.
Françoise Sullivan
Françoise Sullivan is a painter and sculptor born in 1923, who was a signatory of the 1948 manifesto Refus Global with painters Borduas and Riopelle among others, and of the artistic movement of l'automatisme. She is still active, participating in this mural and painting canvases for the exhibition held last year at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Françoise Sullivan est une artiste peintre, sculptrice née en 1923 qui fut signataire du manifeste Refus Global en 1948 avec les peintres Borduas et Riopelle entre autres et du mouvement artistique de l'automatisme. Elle est encore active en participant à cette murale ou aussi en peignant des toiles pour l'exposition qui s'est tenu l'année dernière au Musée des Beaux Arts de Montréal. Damiers 2023
The tribute is actually the work Damier Numéro six, which has been adapted to become a mural. This is because the colors of canvas and concrete are not the same, and perspective and luminosity change the way colors are perceived. For example, the pink rectangles were repainted at Françoise Sullivan's request.
L'hommage est en réalité l'œuvre Damier Numéro six qui a été adapté pour devenir une murale. Car les couleurs d'une toile et du béton ne sont pas les mêmes ainsi que la perspective et la luminosité changent la perception des couleurs. Par exemple, les rectangles roses ont été repeints à la demande de Françoise Sullivan.
