CCC's Street Art Contest #277 Melsa Montagne, Montreal
For CCC's Street Art Contest #277 hosted by @digi-me, I'm sharing with you this superb tribute to the Canadian musician Ethel Stark created this summer by Melsa Montagne. I had to wait until the trees had lost their leaves to photograph this wall, otherwise the mural was partially hidden. The wait was worth it with this light snowfall.
Pour CCC's Street Art Contest #277 organisé par @digi-me, je vous propose ce superbe hommage à la musicienne canadienne Ethel Stark réalisé cet été par Melsa Montagne. J'ai dû attendre que les arbres perdent leurs feuilles pour pouvoir prendre en photo ce mur sinon la murale était partiellement cachée. L'attente a valu la peine avec cette petite neige.

The tribute to Ethel Stark is located in Stark Park at the corner of Clark and Prince Arthur streets in Montreal. It's a very lively area of Montreal on Friday and Saturday nights thanks to the bars and nightclubs located there.
L'hommage à Ethel Stark se trouve dans le parc Stark au coin de la rue Clark et de la rue Prince Arthur à Montréal. C'est un coin de Montréal très animé les vendredi et samedi soirs grâce aux bars et boites de nuit qui s'y trouvent.

Melsa Montagne
Graduated in visual arts from Collège Montmorency in Laval, Canada (1998), Melsa Montagne has been a full-time artist since 2008, specializing in portrait painting. She is also very active in Montreal's street art scene, with several murals to her credit; see StreetArt #199.
Diplômée en arts plastiques du Collège Montmorency de Laval (Canada) en 1998, Melsa Montagne est artiste à temps plein depuis 2008 et se consacre à la peinture de portraits. Elle est également très présente dans le StreetArt à Montréal avec quelques murales à son actif, voir StreetArt #199.
This mural, Composing History, A World to Build, was created to commemorate the 115th anniversary of composer, violinist, and conductor Ethel Stark (1910-2012). This musician paved the way for other women musicians in Montreal by becoming the first woman to conduct a symphony orchestra in Quebec. She also co-founded the Montreal Women's Symphony Orchestra with Madge Bowen.
Cette murale, Composer l'Histoire, Un Monde à Batir, a été réaliser pour souligner le 115ème anniversaire de la compositrice, violoniste et cheffe d’orchestre Ethel Stark (1910-2012), . Cette musicienne a ouvert la voie à d'autres musiciennes à Montréal en devenant la première femme à diriger un orchestre symphonique au Québec. Elle a aussi fondé avec Madge Bowen la Symphonie féminine de Montréal.
The work of Melsa Montagne beautifully illustrates this woman's influence on women in music. I particularly love the group on the right, depicting young students proudly holding their instruments. An inspiring woman.

I like that other women find inspiration in other women, that they pay tribute to them, that they make them visible! I think that every artist, man or woman, feels proud when another artist sees them as a role model. I think it must be very satisfying. Of course, in this case, Ethel Stark is already dead, but the tribute is well deserved. Best regards.
