RM Sotheby's Munich Part I : Mercedes

avatar

The next RM Sotheby's sale, an auction house specialized in cars, will take place on November 26 in Munich in Germany. And when we say "Germany" and "cars", we immediately think of Mercedes, BMW or Porsche. So today, I present you some Mercedes that will be auctioned during this sale like this 1938 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special :

For information, this is the first time RM Sotheby's has held a sale in Munich, which is strange considering that the city is an important automotive center, maybe not like Stuttgart. It will take place at the Motorworld, an imposing building that once housed a railway garage and is now a kind of automobile museum.

Really impressive place... and as my realtor would say: "Nice ceiling height" 😀.

We start the sale with this stuning Mercedes-Benz 540 K. The model was presented in 1936 at the Paris Motor Show for the luxury segment of the German brand . The design was penned by Friedrich Geiger, one of the most famous German designers especially thanks to the "Gullwing" version of the Mercedes 300. With its supercharged engine, the 540 K could achieve speeds approaching 170 kmh despite its weight of 2,700 kg. Unfortunately, given the time, this model was appreciated by the Nazi leaders.

This example (chassis n°169394) was originally a 1938 Cabriolet B which was rebuilt and restored as a Special Roadster in 2004. It's a shame to change the model. But the body was completely destroyed during the war and it's only in the early 2000's that the different parts of the car were reassembled together as the Roadster. Beautiful work.

I love these old dashboards with all these gauges.

1961 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Saloon

1961 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Saloon 01.jpg

The Mercedes-Benz 220 W111 was produced between 1959 and 1971. It was quickly nicknamed in Germany Heckflosse because of its tailfins. In spite of its rather rough appearance the four-door was very popular on the racetracks. Despite its 2.2-liter straight-six engine and its weight of 1,334 kg, the model was very successful on long distances and won for example the 1960 Monte Carlo Rally or the 1961 Algiers-Cape Town trans-African Rally.

This car was driven by The Rally Professor aka Rauno Aaltonen, a Finnish rally driver with whom he won the 1961 Rallye des 1000 Lacs (in Finland). In the early 2000s, this car was restored to competition specifications. It must be cool to be behind this wheel.

1965 Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Cabriolet

And here is the SE Cabriolet version of the Mercedes-Benz 220 which was produced only to 708 copies. This car was bought by another star, but this time not a drvier but an English actor, James Mason who played in the film North by Northwest of Alfred Hitchcock for example. The car remained in the family until 2016.

This example is finished in white with a red top to match the red interior. I'm not a big fan of this color scheme. **What about you?

2022 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE

2022 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E 02.jpg

And to finish this selection of Mercedes, I present you this 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE. I'm less interested in the actual car but what do I see on the pictures? Roger Federer, my favorite tennis player. What is he doing there? It's a collaboration for a charitable public tennis project in London.

2022 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E 10.jpg

My knowledge is rather limited when it comes to new cars, especially electric ones... This would be the first hybrid performance car designed by Mercedes-AMG with a 4.0-liter V-8 engine supported by a 150 kW electric motor. With that, it must go as fast as a tennis ball during a Roger's serve and with this color, it could be confused 😀.

Tennis ball yellow 🤣 I love the 540 at least until the Nazi reference 🙁 but it is a stunning car. I love the mother of pearl background on the dash. Cool and kind of retro feel. I don't know if I like the red leather interior in the white car but its kind of a classic combination. The red convertible top is a bit too much though.

Yep for the 540, you can look the history about the Blue Goose.
And for the red Mercedes, I'm completely agree about the red soft-top, it's too much.
Have a nice saturday... It doesn't snow anymore in Vermont ? it has calmed down here.

Autre monde...

My latest purchase is a 2012 Honda Civic, which I bought through a Public Car Auction in Dallas. I found the auction through this link https://sca.auction/locations/branch-tx-dallas-441.

I have always been a fan of Honda cars and the 2012 Civic model caught my attention. I was able to purchase it for an incredible price and it was in great condition. The car auction process was smooth and easy, it was quite transparent and I felt comfortable bidding on the car. I have to say that I was impressed by the variety of cars that were available at the Public Car Auction in Dallas, there were different makes, models, and years, it was easy to find the right car for me. The cars were well-maintained and in good condition, and I felt like I was getting a great deal. I highly recommend Public Car Auctions in Dallas, especially if you're in the market for a used car and want to save money. The cars are well-maintained and in good condition, and the auction process is smooth and easy. Plus, you can find a wide variety of cars to choose from, so you're sure to find something that suits your needs. Feel free to check out SCA Auction.
