Wednesday Walk : Praia Boca do Rio, Lagos (Portugal)

For this #WednesdayWalk hosted by @tattoodjay, we're staying in Portugal in the very beautiful Algarve region to visit the beach Praia Boca do Rio not very far from Lagos. I stayed in this region for more than a week. But it wasn't enough, so much to do and see. There are beautiful beaches all along the coast like Boca do Rio between Luz and Figueira. It was a very pleasant morning...

The beach is not very far from the car park so ideal for families. It's not very big but in the middle of July, there weren't many people as you can see in the photos. It is a mixture of sand and stones. Perfect sandcastle and ricochet 😀

And this beach has a little extra. If you know me a little, you must have seen in the previous photo the object of my satisfaction. #StreetArt on ruins, and there are no simple and uninteresting tags. I will surely present this to you during this winter.

Back to the beach... The water is rather cold. It's refreshing but you don't stay in the water for long. A few swim and hop out. You can take the opportunity to walk between the rocks at the water's edge or follow the path which passes just behind the beach and which allows you to climb the cliffs which surround the beach.

As the name of the beach suggests, Boca do Rio aka the Mouth of the River, a small river has just flowed into the ocean. Dam construction becomes very interesting. I become a child again in this environment 😀.

As we pass the river, we see many white flowers. This is Lis maritime aka Pancratium maritimum, a pretty full flower adapted to this dry and saline environment. First time seeing it.

On the other side of the river, we can still see the telephone line (at least I think it's the telephone) which goes towards the ruined building. I tried looking for vintage photos but couldn't find anything. Only that excavations took place a few years ago to discover an ancient small port from Roman times.

Other ruins are visible... nothing exciting even at the level of #StreetArt. I should have continued the trail because it leads to the Fort de Almeadena built in 1632 and destroyed by the earthquake of 1755. It made a lot of damage in Portugal.

After another trip to the beach and into the water to cool off, I went to the other side to climb to the top of the cliff. It's a small climb but the sun is nice to see the water and know that you can cool off if necessary 😀.

Along the way there are signs showing the biodiversity of this place with the different birds that nest in the cliffs, insects as well as flora. Because it is a protected area.

At the top, we have a very beautiful view of the beach and the mouth of the river which is a marshy area, perhaps not in summer. It was very dry when I visited.

Have you noticed the color and transparency of the water? It's absolutely beautiful. It makes you want to swim. It's only when you put a toe in the water that the will fades slightly 😀.

It was time to leave and come back down... It was time to go eat at a restaurant in the village of Burgau that made an excellent grilled octopus, one of my favorite dishes.

Praia Boca do Rio

I hope you enjoyed this #WednesdayWalk with me. It feels good to see this blue sky and turquoise water again on this fall day in Montreal.
Have a great day everyone...

Yep beautiful beach... ...and perfect for me, since I’m not really into just lying around sunbathing. There’s plenty to do and see in the surrounding area. You’re lucky, you have a beautiful country, full of things to see and great food and drink.
Have a great day
