A Sunday With Garden-Work

Use My Energy

Sometimes you have days when you seem to walk with your soul under your arm, and sometimes you have days when you have energy left. Yesterday was one of those days when I seemed to have energy left and so I immediately knew that I had to use that energy. It was a lovely Sunday, the sun was shining and the temperature was pleasant. So time to do something with that. The dogs went outside to play together first so that they could lie down somewhere tired and satisfied because we had other plans. And it would be useful for our plans if they didn't get in the way. Letting them inside on such a beautiful day would be a shame, so make sure they are tired first.

Get Our Hands Dirty

So when that was successful and they were panting happily with a few balls to guard, we could start doing what we had planned. And now you might be wondering what that was. I'll tell you. We were going to get our hands dirty, literally and figuratively. Right in our backyard. Well, I should say, on our farm. Everything is paved with stones, and that is not allowed otherwise because the zoning plan states that it must be a farmyard. Unfortunately, otherwise, we would have thrown out the stones long ago. What is not allowed is not allowed, so deal with it as it is. And that means that we have all the plants in containers. We even have trees that grow in containers. And yes, that means that we have to check now and then whether they have enough sand and whether their roots still have enough space.

Pampering Our Trees

So we could work on that together for a while. Armed with a large spade and a container of cow manure pellets, ready to pamper our still-bare trees. First, it was time for a little sand change for our trees. It's almost like a tree spa day, you know? And then yesterday's biggest job. Our bamboo had to move. Unfortunately, the container it was in had completely rotted, and the entire side and bottom had fallen apart. Too bad, but unfortunately, time to move the bamboo, and that took some hard work because you can't simply empty a 1 cubic meter container. In the end, we succeeded and we were able to recover from all that hard work.

Secret Stash Of Tennis Balls

While I went to arrange coffee for us, my partner made the dogs happy. They were now somewhat rested again, and with the treasure of tennis balls that came from under the old bamboo bowl, they were able to revive themselves! I swear, it was like our dogs had built up a secret stash. I always wondered where all those balls went, but that mystery has now been solved.

Little Frog

After my partner had made the dogs happy, he suddenly found a small frog and so he very kindly placed it near our small pond. Hopefully, he will feel at home there. And then it was finally time to sit down and enjoy the freshly brewed coffee.

Strawberries!

After coffee, it was time for the next job. The strawberries! They are already turning nice and green, still very small, but with a freshening up, new sand, and not to mention some cow manure granules in the trays, they will hopefully soon be ready to put on a show. And I seriously can't wait until they get there. I'm already looking forward to picking such a beautiful deep red juicy strawberry. Oh, that is a moment to look forward to every year. The wonderfully sweet summer kings. I can almost taste them already.

Mellow Yellow

After freshening up the strawberries it was time for a well-deserved coffee break in the sun, and I had to take some pictures. The Forsythia is and remains a moment of enjoyment during this time. Everything is still bare, but the Forsythia and Daffodils bring spring into the garden with their yellow color. Seeing that always makes me happy.

Horses Challenging Dogs

We also had a good laugh while drinking coffee about the horses we have in the meadow next to our house. They seemed to be having the most fun, and they seemed to have invented a new game. They challenge our Skipper by coming to the fence and standing there whistling until he runs like crazy to the fence. Then they run away like naughty schoolchildren, making the craziest jumps. As soon as we called Skipper back, they immediately came back to the fence and so the game started all over again. It was too funny to watch. We also made fun of Skipper for allowing himself to be screwed over like that. By the way, Skipper also had the most fun, his tail waved up and down happily and relaxed and he seemed to have a big smile on his face.

Relaxed, No Stress

All in all a nice relaxing Sunday. No stress, no hassle. Being together, laughing together, and enjoying the little things in life. So yeah, I think it's safe to say it was a great Sunday. Bring on the next one!

You guys had a fun Sunday.
Dogs challenging dogs;
Naturally, a dog has upper hand to smash it, unless the horse is going to use the huge body advantage. lol😅

That seemed like a busy day heheh, but am glad you had fun doing all the work. That was a nice trick getting the dogs out of your way so you could work, if only they knew why they were made to play till they got tired 😩🤣🤣.

This is my first time seeing a straw berry plant, it doesn't look like what I was expecting 🤣

I came across this post on Dreemport
