Bringing Myla Home & Embracing New Adventures

Bygone Memories & Embracing New Adventures

This morning I woke up with a certain melancholy in my heart. Today we had to pick up the ashes of our little Myla Muis at Peelrust Animal Crematorium. And we already had an appointment for that at 9 a.m. We left home around half past eight, forgetting that we would have to deal with road diversions and road closures on the road to Peelrust. The half-hour it normally takes us to drive from our house to the woods where Peelrust is located was not enough. It's not a great start to the day if you're immediately late for an appointment. Unfortunately, it was force majeure ... Fortunately, at Peelrust they are always understanding and this late arrival was no problem. Peelrust is located in the forests of Gemert in Brabant. Today this place was not only good for cherishing bygone memories but also for embracing new adventures.

Exploration Time

The animal crematorium is in a beautiful location, in the woods, and since we had decided to take Skipper with us, we did not have to go home immediately this time. And of course, our boy is only too happy to explore a new environment. Especially if it is an environment where it is quiet and the chance that we will encounter someone is very small. So we decided to enjoy the beautiful surroundings around Peelrust. A walk through the beautiful greening forests seemed the perfect way to escape all the melancholy and focus again on the here and now. The soothing sounds and smells of nature around us, and Skipper happily frolicking ahead of us.

After that walk, it was time to get back in the car, and accompanied by a busy 'talking' dog in the back we returned home. Time for a cup of coffee in the sun, relax, play with the only busybody we have left, and reminisce about little Myla Mouse. She is 'home' again, with the other dogs who preceded her over the rainbow bridge.

Oak Railroad Ties

After the coffee was finished and we had tired Skipper enough with his favorite games, I went to mow the lawn. Time did not stand still and we had another appointment scheduled for today. We still had to leave to pick up a few oak sleepers, an appointment we made a week ago. We had plans with these railroad ties. We now have six ashcans from dogs that have passed away, so it is time to make a nice 'memorial monument' for the dogs. We could buy the urns we need for this online, but my god, then you pay almost more per urn than for a complete oak railroad tie. In addition, it is often not exactly what we want, so it is better to make the urns ourselves. We have a lathe and all the tools we need. Only the wood is still missing. And unfortunately, that is still missing after today. Although we kept to the agreement, the selling party did not. When we arrived, to our disappointment, the gate was closed and no one was in sight. We rang the bell a few more times, but there was no response. We saw cars there, but no one responded, the gate did not open and ultimately we had to conclude that they were not very keen to sell. Too bad for us, we weren't able to buy what we wanted today. But also a shame for the selling party, because we will certainly not make an appointment there a second time. And we certainly do leave a bad review. We will find the wood we want somewhere else. It may take a while, but the bad reviews for that company will remain.

It Was A Good Day

Despite this minor setback, it was still a nice day. The warmth of the sun and the beauty of nature. It brought a sense of comfort and Skipper's chatter made us laugh. The sadness for Myla has not disappeared, and the sadness for Lana has not disappeared either. Their absence is still felt every day, but time will help heal these wounds. For now, we are happy with and grateful for the many beautiful memories we have been able to share with all the dogs in our lives. And of course, we look forward to making new memories with Skipper by our side
