Aaah a Travel Photo contest!

The first thing I thought was ... HELP! I have not been traveling in recent years. And now to throw a photo in the contest of at least 10 years old ... that's not my idea of participating in a photo contest. But then I continued to read in the description of the contest and saw to my relief that it does not necessarily have to be a photo of a long journey. But that it can also be a photo of a place where you don't come every day. Thank you very much for this addition @derangedvisions.

And let that have immediately sparked my desire for a place where I loved to go in the past. And which is being able to visit again now we have a car.

THE MAASHORST in Schaijk, North Brabant in the Netherlands.

Many many sweet memories

A place where I have many memories. As a young girl I always went swimming there with my sister and my nieces. As we got older we went to the pool where our friends were of course ... but the longing for that beautiful place always remained with me.

Micky

When my sister bought her first dog Micky I had another reason to go back! We have put many footsteps there. My sister, Micky and I, spent hours walking around and enjoying the nature around us.

At the Maashorst we found peace in the hectic of cancer treatments for our father.

When our father got lung cancer it was there that we found peace in the hectic of the treatments. So again we got in the car, took bath towels and Micky with us, and spent hours walking around in the beautiful nature around us.

Then again I enjoyed The Maashorst with Rowan and Myla.

And when I bought Rowan myself, and later Myla joined it, I walked around with them for many hours. Wonderful to see those dogs enjoying the many different pieces of nature. In the water, in the forests around it. And it was always a resting point for me to go. As soon as it got busy in my head, I went to the Maashorst to relax. Took Rowan and Myla with me, walked a while, and just sit there with the dogs, and watch them playing. We have made so many memories there.

My aunt has her final resting place at The Maashorst nature cemetery

When my aunt died, she was one of the first to get her final resting place in the nature cemetery that has been created there for a number of years.

Recent years I only have been there twice!

Since I moved myself, first to Nistelrode, and later to Heeswijk Dinther, I came less and less on the Maashorst. And I have been there twice in the last five years. Once when my aunt died, and ... now to watch the sunset at one of my most favorite places on earth. This time I was alone. And I thought back of the times I spend here with Rowan ... This sunset was for him!

The desire to be there again grows by the day. The next time I want to go there with Skipper. I want to take him to where Rowan and I have so many memories. I want him to get to know this beautiful place too. That he too can experience the peace that comes from this beautiful spot of nature.

And walk in the footsteps of Rowan with Skipper...
