The movie memory of childhood | The Animal Farm

You don´t make me happy with binge-watching

Normally I never feel the need to write a blog for Cine. Of course, that has everything to do with the fact that I just watch very little TV. I'm not a person to make happy with binge-watching a whole series. You don't make me happy with a movie every day. Of course I watch something, but you won't see me watching TV every day or even every week. Usually, it can't pique my interest enough, or hold it long enough. We don't have Netflix either. And the fact that I watch so little makes it difficult to write a good blog for Cine.

Twitter Writing Prompt

The writing prompt this time, however, immediately gave me an idea of what I could blog about. Because I don't have to write an extensive review here. In fact, purely from my memory, I couldn't even do that anymore, it was too long ago and I was simply too young. A few days ago there was a writing prompt from the CINE Twitter account asking about the movies from your childhood that made the most impression. And that reminded me of an animated film that made a very big impression on me at the time.

Not a review

I will not write a review here. But very briefly which animation film it concerns, and what the story is in very broad terms. To be honest, I just don't remember much of what happened. I don't remember much of the story. But the feeling I got from those films back then, yes, I can still remember it like it was yesterday.

Namely, an intense feeling of sadness and pity. Back then this animation film made big tears roll down my cheeks from under my glasses.

And the animated movie that made this happen was;

THE ANIMAL FARM

Based on George Orwell's book, this 1954 animated film is about farm animals that rebel against the drunken farmer. A true revolution begins. The slogan the animals adopt at the start of their revolt is that all animals are equal, but that soon turns out to be untrue. It soon turns out that some animals place themselves above the rest, and they suppress the other animals.

They make life better for themselves better, But quite a lot worse for all the other animals at the farm. Nothing is shunned to make the other animals listen. You can simply speak of slavery here.

A Satire

The book, by George Orwell, is a satire on the USSR under Stalin. And in the film, similarities with historical figures can be recognized. For example, you can see similarities with Stalin in the pig Napoleon.

The animated film from 1954 can be viewed via **YouTube, but if you don't feel like watching an animation that does have a deeper message there is also a feature film made in 1999 directed by John Stephenson. I have not seen this film myself. And since our German Shepherd Skipper can´t stand to see animals on TV, that is not recommended for me to change that now. LOL!

It was about movies from my childhood, right?

But disregarding the political message for a moment. It was about movies that made an impression on me in my childhood.

And the animation film made a deep impression on me at the time. I was about 7 years old I think when we saw this film at school. And that's also the reason that I really don't remember the whole storyline now. But what has always stuck with me is that one of the animal farm's most loyal animals, a horse named Boxer, is betrayed by the pig, Napoleon, whom he has always blindly followed as his leader.

I won't tell you how Boxer is betrayed, and what happened to Boxer, but seeing that as a child made me so sad that big tears rolled down my cheeks from under my glasses. And it even made me hate pigs for a while! LOL. As a child, I did not understand the deeper political message that was incorporated in the animation film. For me, it was very simple. The pig was bad, and I was deeply saddened and felt immense pity for the horse. As a child I literally only saw what the images showed me, and I was always crazy about horses.

Now, however, that's a different story. And when I think about it now, there are many things that I wonder about.

I will never get the answers

Was that movie shown to us at a young age to show us that there are good and bad people in this world? Or was the film shown to us, to show that there are always leaders and followers and that oppression is a part of life? That we should consider that normal?

I will never get the answer to these questions, that I know for sure. Another certainty is that so many years later, I watched the same scene again. And even now I got a lump in my throat when I saw the images. Yes, it is JUST an animation movie, and yet. It moves me.

The message I didn't see then, but I did feel. Might be even harder now.

I never knew their was a movie with the same title and probably same story line as well.

I only knew of the novel(story book) which I read during my childhood days, thanks for sharing, I guess I'll have to check Netflix or the internet for it.
Have a productive day ahead.

The movie is based on the novel. So yeah, I guess it´s the same storyline. I added a youtube link to the animation movie. But if you want to see the movie directed by Stephenson you will probably find it soon enough.

Thanks for visiting my blog and your comment. Have a great day too!
